Jesus the economic illiteracy of Americans explains to me how our bullshit system never has been fixed, we deserve the mess we have.

The value of bitcoin as a speculative asset is different from it's perceived value as a system of barter. Forget market cap, it's meaningless. Tether creates liquidity and therefore a higher perceived value by closely pairing it's liquidity risk to the dollar. It's undoubtedly not a perfect 1:1, but the reduction in beta by creating ease of liquidation allows BTC to function almost as a treasury bond in theory, where its systemic risk is perceived to be vastly reduced due to tether simply existing.

Additionally, once you realize that by having a liquid, securitized currency floating along the dollar; combined with the fact people are ignorant to how this system operates on the network level; and the connection is not made between crypto as a derivative assets with USD acting as the underlying; I hope some of you can see what will happen if there is a way to counterfeit the USD using a method similar to how the Fed printed money in QE without flooding the circulating supply by raising market values through purchases; thus increasing the equity of the asset owner and countering insolvency by the conversion of liquid wealth to illiquid wealth.

I hope someone see what this means for us over the next few years, and why those that do understand are getting mortgages to buy BTC.

It’s no use anon, all the smart people left /biz/ and don’t understand how tether will fundamentally cause btc to replace fiat. They don’t and won’t get it because they still think there’s a difference between “fake” and “real” money and don’t understand that value stems from consensus + liquidity and how USDT derives its value from consensus but simple provides a liquid pairing for btc and that bitfinex is becoming the fed 2.0 but this time in a good way because btc is gold 2.0 so we’re actualy witnessing transition to a system that captures the best of both gold backed and non backed currencies. Basically the point anon is making is that when the FED came up with QE they realised that the secret to increasing monetary supply without hyperinflation was to ensure that monetary supply went into illiquid assets. Bitfinex is simply copying this system, because it “prints” tethers which are fake but uses them to increase the price of btc which is “real” (ie non printable) it creates a feedback loop. The assumption that this feedback loop will ultimately collapse is because brainlets can’t into economics and don’t understand that this feedback loop is actually perfect because value stems from consensus so because we believe tether to be tied to the USD it doesn’t actually matter if it is. Just like it doesn’t matter if the FED prints 100 quadrillion USD as long as the local grocer still sells his milk for 1 USD. So the trick the fed came up with when they introduced QE is making sure the money went directly into assets and thus would never reach the grocer thus ensuring hyperinflation didn’t happen and that the 1% that owns assets got richer. This exact process is happening with BTC, because no one will actually try to convert tether to USD tether will just increase the value of btc and everyone with lots of btc is analogous to the 1% of Americans, will just get richer.

The US forced the USD to become the currency used worldwide to buy and sell oil and gas and thus created an endless demand on the dollar allowing them to export the inflation of printing endless dollars buy and selling them for actual goods. That's the reason why there is no hyperinflation of the USD despite the FED printing it none-stop. That's the fucking reason of the constant US involvement in the ME. What does that have to do with the Tether not being the same as the Petrodollar? As long as oil is being priced, bought and sold in USD on the world market, it will keep it's value. Tether's value is ephemeral and based upon belief as you claim. These are not the same things.
