This, college was worth it but even with 15k of government loan debt this seems like bullshit. Thinking about just investing all my money instead of paying down the debt as fast as possible in hopes of getting a better return than my interest rate as well as hoping obama makes some big forgiveness plan.

It's apparent to me that many people just don't do college in a financially sensible way like I did.

After high school I got a job working IT, and took one class a semester at night at a good local state college. I took no loans, and didn't even apply for Pell grants. I have no debt.

While working I saved up a lot of money. I got laid off a few years into a job and went back to school full time for two and a half years with my comp. So instead of taking 20 years to finish college, it's more like eight years.

Some students have parents who never went to college, apply to an expensive private university, go deep in debt, major in some jobless major like English, and don't even finish the degree. Yes, if you do it like this, college may seem like a bad idea.

On the other hand I studied computer science, and the knowledge I gained plus my degree has done very well for me.

If college was such a horrible idea, upper middle class families would not be sending their children to college.

That people who don't know what they're doing go deep into debt says nothing about college, but their own intelligence. I never borrowed a dime to go to college. Of course, I could not afford to go to a private university so I didn't. I can always get a Masters at a good private university if I want to.
