I'm going to take $5k out of my gains, put it into one coin, make multiple backups of the wallet/seed/key, and just let it sit there and pretend it doesn't exist for 10-20 years. Which coin should it be?

ETH

But don't it for 10 years, go for 5 and then re-evaluate from there

I'm not cashing out completely. I will still trade with the rest of my portfolio. But I want to just have something to set and forget.

i understand but planning to hold crypto for 20 years is like buying a social media stock and holding it for 100 years. Would holding bitcoin for the next 10 years be a good idea? probably nor because ethereum is better and will take over. Is holding eth for 20 years a good idea? probably not because there will be something better. Crypto is still entirely speculative and we will see many changes and revolutions in the next 20 years. Most coins will likely be worthless in that time. Also likely is that good projects such as the 4 i mentioned will be very very valuable in 1-3 years. Use a logical time frame

probabaly 50/50 bitcoin and ethereum

those 2 have orders of magnitude more attention development and energy use and are most likely to exist on that time horizon

EOS you fool.

Blockchain real estate.

It'll be the first Trillion Dollar Organisation.

And then it'll really take off.

There's a very good chance ALL of the existing coins will be replaced by something different by then.

As much as /biz/ hates this coin, unironically IOTA.
Quantum resistance and M2M payments make it more future proof than all other cryptocurrencies I'm aware of.
