Not at all the case, I'm a computer engineer with a background in crypto. It's just that a key file on your desktop can be stolen and brute forced offline without your knowledge. It was either setup a separate PC to only use as a wallet, or buy a $150 Ledger. I chose the latter, and it's just so handy.
