Would I be an idiot to invest in this and how would I go about doing it? Could ethermon be valuable one day?

It's literally coming out today though. In a couple hours we'll have the first actual game on a blockchain.

Anyway if you want to "invest" in it >>5991823 is right. You can't buy the gen 0 mons anymore so the only thing to do if you don't already have them is to get some of the newer cheaper mons and level them up in battle, which will make them more valuable to other players. You can wait for Ethereum's gas price to drop a bit and keep catching the three free mons to try to roll a high BP and focus on leveling that one up, but it might be smart to wait until the meta plays out so we know which ones will be most desirable.

And actually realistically BP alone probably won't be the most important factor in a mon's strength: it's all about the stat distribution. Speed might end up being a shit stat on Pangrass for example and everyone wants Defense, but your BP might still be high if everything EXCEPT defense rolled high. Hopefully the website will show all the stats instead of just BP (which is the average of all 6) but if it remains as is then chances are high BP mons will be the most valuable even if they don't necessarily have it allocated into the best stats.

I'm excited to finally battle today and anyone could make some nice money taking down castles, but you're not going see massive gains unless you have the now unobtainable ancestor mons when trading comes out. However, what I'm really waiting for is Smorple. Whoever gets the first Smorple will be very rich indeed.

You might not be waiting long because it looks like they're adding new mons too. At least 5 so far and counting. I'm watching the owner's address on etherscan.
