Wealth is having what you want.

>> No.59495430

Nah, wealth is having all your wants satisfied regardless of how many they are.
Poverty is having many wants and none satisfied.

well in todays world having a house, healthcare, kids and a retirement are all great wants apparently so i say fuck this shit
between the two options of riding it all in risky gambles or burning this shit to the ground, it would seem we are choosing the more constructive of the two

Yeah I dunno. There's definitely virtue in being capable of soldiering on in spite of poor material conditions, and living in comfort very clearly comes with an inherent tendency toward weakness and stupidity. This has happened to ruling classes over generations, and I would argue it happened to all of developed society over the 20th century, leading to the predicament we find ourselves in now.

But I've never bought into the stoic idea that, for instance, if your whole family died and your house burned down, still you should be happy because you have control of your mind or whatever the fuck. That just breeds passivity, makes you docile, and leads to a world where all the material wealth is in the hands of the wicked who don't care one iota for such high-minded fart sniffing. The best men are the ones who can attain wealth without losing sight of the courage, will, and thoughtfulness that built it, and the heroic man is the one who can bestow that wisdom upon his descendants.

Of course, this all assumes that people are building their wealth honestly, which very often isn't the case when you're ruled by central banks under fiat currency.
