>How's it hanging scrapbro. I picked this up for $1 at an antique shop last week. I'm fairly certain it's coin silver. I can't find a ton on the maker, but what I've seen from them is coin silver, not a ton of plate. The piece doesn't show any signs of plating either. There's a small hole in the back and it appears to be silver all the way through too. See some listings for $50/$60 a piece+. Thoughts?
>>59401333

Hey anon, that's an impressive score! Most people ignore anything not clearly marked "Sterling" so you're clearly ahead of the curve, later coin silver era pre-1868 flatware lacking standardized hallmarks is really confusing to people, even moreso than the earlier coin silver pieces, so congrats on recognizing the potential and scooping it! I looked it up and Hayden Brother & Co was a retailer in Charleston, SC in the mid 1850s so I'm pretty sure that spoon was made by a different silversmith contracted to them, the illegible marks to the right were probably the hallmarks of whoever made it. I've found pieces in that pattern and think it is called "Fiddle Thread" and that it was made by numerous silversmiths out of both Coin and Sterling silver. Without knowing who specifically made it I can't say which alloy was used but it's certainly at least Coin. What does it weigh?

I made a post about this in the last thread and im going to give another reminder, the sudden promoting of bitcoin in here is happening because of the failure of the system, Cliff High was talking the other week about how the khazarian banksters will try 3 currency options they offer the population using their puppet Trump which is why the shill faggots have invaded pmg ever since Trump got selected to his 2nd term.

CBDC's are dead on arrival and have already failed so now they are going to Plan B......itcoin, not sure what the 3rd option will be but whatever it is it will also fail, Cliff High said that all 3 options might fail in as little a 3 months if not the next 7 months starting from this month.

The reason pmg is being targeted is because we already know we are on the the real currency that will be used after these parasites ponzi has been rejected and collapsed and we'll be the new rich which is why pmg is probably the only general on biz thats being attacked.

This is confirmation we are close to the end and have already won, keep stacking.

Hell yeah man, can't go wrong with a 50-bagger like that chunky spoon, I'm happy to help a fren and hope you can go find more cheapies like that. It really is a nice piece and I agree that holding particularly old hand-made silver is a much more magical experience than holding a handful of generic buffalos. That old artisanal 19th and 18th century silverware has so much more character than mass-produced 20th century or modern stuff. Anyway, I had some examples of pre-1868 American sterling and coin silver handy so here's a pic for you to study. The top piece is Gorham sterling silver, their early pseudo-hallmarks mimicked English marks. The fork is also made of Sterling silver. The rest are .900 coin silver, sometimes the pieces say "Coin" or "Pure coin" like the big spoon with rectangular hallmark but often they have no such marks at all. A good rule of thumb is if you see anything with those distinctive recessed rectangular makers' marks like the "Wishart" creamer at the bottom or the "N. Matson" pure coin spoon then it's 99.9% sure to be good old American coin, I've never seen anything with those rectangular marks that wasn't good silver so grab it all if you ever see it in your travels and good luck!

Yeah but if you actually watched the video, he mentioned that Plan B is going to be some failed petrodollar experiment, he glossed over bitcoin maybe like once. A previous anon asked who the Hell exactly Cliff High is, as in his where does his validity on these subjects come from? Yes, I agree with a lot of his points, especially about the Zion-puppet Drumpf, but I also question a lot of them. The thing with the ufo's is something like 80%+ of ufos spotted are flown by humans who are in the secret space program, with the crash of the global financial system the technicians working on those "ufos" in the underground bases suddenly realise they are broke and need to survive, and like has always happened when empires fall they release/sell those secrets and they make their way out to the public.

And if you think that sounds ridiculous go watch "the lost century and how to reclaim it" Steven Greers documentary from 2 years ago that backs up a lot of what Cliff High does be talking about.

For junk silver, it depends on the coin and where you live, along with the purity and condition of the coin (because a lot of stuff from 19th century is very worn and doesn't actually weigh to its full specifications).

Hey fren, did you ever learn more about that Louis XV silverware? I'm not sure about the laws or full range of silversmith practices back then but I do know that colonial Spanish milled 8-reales dollars were a very popular source of "coin" silver. I'm sure that tons of US coins got melted too but I think the Spanish coins contained slightly more silver or could be obtained at a slightly lower price than an equivalent amount of silver in the form of US coinage. It's funny to think that back when silver was a fully monetary asset your silverware was basically hard money, I bet more than a few debts were settled in teaspoons lol

When credit plummets in value and resources' true scarcity amongst the "claims" to ownership actualize you will find that purchasing power will simply shift to those with the commodities and physical capital. Crypto won't be needed and if anything it will be a massive sell-off as people react to scarcity. No one is going to want crypto when people are standing in the breadlines because people don't earn enough at their service job to pay for a weeks worth of gasoline to drive to their job. Crypto is going to be absolutely retarded and it just goes to show you how naive people are and how used to the endless amounts of consumption the dollar-system has given us. The "big one" will not be characterized by a V shaped recovery where people end up wealthier because of it. People will be wiping their asses with leaves and women will be walking the streets trying to get their next meal.

That's not to say that crypto won't have its uses in these niche situations such as fleeing a country. But I bet it deflates against gold at some point.
Historical precedent shows that banks defuse deflation by revaluing the paper claims against gold. Count on it.

i'm a pm guy, but bought a few dollars worth of xmr some years ago as a middle finger to btc. I support their project, but don't see it going anywhere and think it will likely be shut down entirely after the initial push by governments to force cbdc onto the public.

The only way out of the system is unironically taking claim of the old system and holding PMs. Silver really does end the fed, GSR really will reset. Crypto is a short term solution to a long term problem which only PMs can solve (land and other real assets could potentially, but are less and less are available).

Even when muh asteroids are mined, it will only increase the amount of gold in circulation, not significantly affect its value. A generation or two after asteroid mining is standard practice (on some small level), we will likely be looking at ubiquitous computing in a post-resource environment, so PMs will be little more than mementos at that point.

>tldr; PMs will get you all the way to the finish line.

3. Why would crypto be worth nothing but gold would in a hyper deflationary event?
4. If it was hyper inflationary then everyone who was a retard that had debt and assets (ie literally everyone in the U.S.) would benefit. Deflation, the opposite, means gold sucks.

1 - Credit would plummet because the institutions that extend credit may not be able to. Almost all of it comes from commercial banks and if they stop giving out loans and prices are settled via cash transactions then things will tighten up very quickly.
2. The legality of gold doesn't really make a difference. It's the asset the banks own and it is by that measure of value that debts will be rebalanced
3. As the economy deleverages in a massive unwinding of selling, overbought financial assets get sold off to cover the loans. This extreme levels of deflation are dangerous to the economy as a whole and in particular the bond market. Banks will almost certainly have to rev-up the money printer because the lifeblood of the financial system is money markets and bonds. So in order to prop up the ponzi, they have to undermine the value of cash. This is why you want to be on the sidelines in precious metals because its use and value lies in it being in a final form (energy, labor, already included). Your dollars and cash will get diluted to protect the bonds.
4. Between 1929 and 1933 you had extreme deflation before the banks revalued gold. They squeezed the country's balls for 4 years. So you can't debt-max and be safe or expect some money-for-nothing in a timely manner. In the event of deflation you want gold because there is no counterparty risk. As the market deleverage (selling assets to pay debts) all assets will lose value and to offset deflation the banks will be undermining the value of cash to offset the selling. Bank balance sheets depend on it and if they are not credit worthy and cannot make loans then they will go underwater very quickly without out. PMs, being money - cannot be diluted and hence why the crippling deflation of the great depression was correct by a forceful revaluation of gold from $20.67 to $35.

>> No.59411263

I should have said as fast as they can without causing the price of gold to skyrocket and the value of the dollar to dump. Neither of which is in their interest in the short term. In fact, they probably stopped buying gold for a spell to try and cool off the market.

>> No.59411283

>>59410978
>1. Why would credit plummet and not be pumped in every other crisis
Loss of Confidence: Investors and financial institutions lose confidence in the economy, leading to reduced lending and borrowing.
Insolvency Concerns: Financial institutions may face insolvency risks, causing them to pull back on credit to mitigate losses.
Market Liquidity: Overall liquidity in the market can shrink, making it harder for businesses and individuals to access credit.
Regulatory Changes: Governments may implement stricter regulations to stabilize the economy, which can temporarily restrict credit availability.
Deleveraging:
Both consumers and businesses may try to pay down existing debt rather than taking on new credit, leading to a decrease in credit values.

>2. Why wouldn’t gold be illegal again like in 1933?
The economic landscape and regulatory environment are different than in 1933. Governments and institutions have developed other means of managing economic downturns or crises without such extremes. Also, globalism makes it harder to implement confiscation policies without causing significant international repercussions.

>3. Why would crypto be worth nothing but gold would in a hyper deflationary event?
The historicity of gold. while crypto might see values plummet due to their speculative nature and lack of intrinsic value, gold is likely to retain or even increase its value as investors seek stability and hedge against turmoil.

>4. missing the point
Inflationary: value of the dollar decreases, then more dollars to buy the same goods. PMs retain value or appreciate because they are a hedge against inflation. People flock to PMs to preserve purchasing power. Deflationary Periods: the value of the dollar increases because the prices of goods drop. This can lead to economic slowdowns. PMs can still provide value during deflation as, while prices might not skyrocket, they hold intrinsic value and liquidity.

The fundamentals prove it is extremely scarce compared to the global population. And given it is a value-dense commodity with a historical ratio to gold means it will get vacuumed up as the problems with the banking system actualize. Many people who may think their portfolios are hedged with precious metals very likely own paper silver ETFs. And in all liklihood, those metals out of sheer necessity will be confiscated for strategic purposes. 1000 physical ounces in your own possession is massive because it has no counterparty risk, and the ability for EVERYONE to acquire physical, if real world circumstances demand it, will be impossible. I've mentioned this before that if push comes to shove that the current paper market cannot be used to suppress the price of silver, The United States will just do a coup in another country and make that government sell silver exclusively to a closed American market at the suppressed price. It will be closed because exit tariffs will be in place to stop silver exiting the country to other global markets. It will only work as long as the United States maintains its global military supremacy.

Thanks but that's overseas from me. There are some local shops with these coins, but I've been busy slurping cheap junk exclusively for the past months. The last 1 oz coins I got was during the dip in August: a tube of these Niue geckos (for some reason they were on sale for less than wieners/noah's arks) plus a handful of collector coins like those I mentioned, including the 2 oz Tudor dragon. But I guess I'm done with that series, and basically all other .999 coins, because next month we're getting hit with a massive VAT on silver.
The interesting thing about this gecko coin is it's actually representative of Niue, unlike most of their other stuff. They also made a couple others like this: a lotus (allegedly, because I've never seen it in any shops) and a "kulukulu" (dove) that I wanted but didn't have cash to buy at the time. They still sell them on veravalor.com but for like 50 euros (ok I'm not that interested).

Different anons but I’ll continue
1. Lack of confidence did happen in 2008. Eventually we recover with a money printer but have a quiet depression for 20 years. But that doesn’t change on paper everything effectively got bailed out. Not sure why it would be different this time. Dollar vs other currencies is stronger than ever
2. Good point about globalization. I think less people overall have gold so it would be less likely to ban. But to be honest there’s nothing stopping them from doing it again
3 I can see crypto going down as a way to get liquidity fast but I can’t see it going to 0 forever if there’s a hyper inflationary event. But that goes back to point 1. If there’s a lack of lending then the logical next step is deflation in the short term
4. Which brings me back here. Deflationary short term in the shtf. But then later inflationary in the bailout. Basically the system doesn’t collapse. Second anon basically telling me pms going up in inflation but not down during deflation which doesn’t make sense. Especially with silver as an industrial metal.

I think the problem with these narratives is that gold is always being compared to dollars as a better store of value. No one would disagree. But against other assets it’s pretty meh tier. I do think it’s worth having. Too bad I lost it all in a boating accident.

Thanks for your honest response. I don't mind being wrong about something, but want to explain what I believe to be a fundamental misunderstanding about the entire situation as a whole.

I think it's incorrect to think of precious metals (especially gold) in terms of fiat value. The reason most here are encouraging or excited about holding gold and silver isn't because they think of it as an investment in the same sense as TSLA, APPL, BTC, etc. All of these investments (especially crypto) are more speculative than PMs because their value is in dollars, which are simply nothing more than I.O.Us dispensed from governments. Trading in debt is useful. When the dominant system invariably fails, as it has dozens of times throughout history, the purchasing power of this debt falls to nearly zero. As an example, look at Weimar, Venezuela, half of Africa, etc.

the reason many of us don't trust crypto is because, at the end of the day, it's simply fiat, with no underlying or intrinsic value outside of the faith and trust of whatever government issued it. Fiat is the 'trust me bro' financial system.

You may be right in thinking governments could confiscate gold in the future. Even though I don't think it likely, this is why we have the mantra "if you don't hold it, you don't own it."

on a long enough timeline, i think every financial system will eventually collapse. PMs give us the most control and higher probability to make it through to the other side, to the next system.

That said, most of us also have some crypto. We just see it for what it is, a temporary solution to a much larger problem. PMs aren't necessarily for a SHTF or TEOTWAWKI, but make perfect sense to hold for a revaluation, pegging of fiat to PMs, collapse of financial systems, stores of value, etc.
