Call your insurance company though and ask who authorized that charge and that you want to know why they charged you that amount. Have them send you an itemized list of what exactly amounted to that absurd amount of money. You might be able to get the whole thing thrown out with a lawyer who will charge you about $300...which is better than 4 grand.

Most doctors offices will work with you and lower the cost substantially. It doesn't cost them anywhere near that to run the MRI. The machines themselves are millions of dollars, but a single scan costs less than $100. Your doctor would rather get paid a little more money than no more money. Call them and tell them you can't even come close to affording it. They already got $2500 from insurance which is significant enough, they don't need a penny from you. They will lower the bill.

I drive for a foodservice distributor and got my insurace through them. I picked the lowest tier health plan since I thought I would never really use it but one day I started getting seizures out of nowhere lel.

Well at least you have insurance through your job. I used to operate a forklift at a seafood distribution center and although the pay was pretty good, there were no benefits at all. I went to trade school and started my own handyman business and still have no insurance, but since I get paid under the table I qualify for medicaid under the ACA. No, and no one is sure what caused it. The MRI came back normal too, so who knows.
My situation probably isn't that bad compared to other people, I just have to keep taking this medicine for a while. I also can afford my bill but I will definitely be looking for avenues to pay less if I can.
