Based fellow four figure Chad. At least we can look down on the people who don't have anything in their checking/savings accounts, let alone crypto.

SHIT THREAD MADE FOR NIGGERS

is it okay to have 20k cash sitting in the bank? Or should I just keep a 3 month emergency fund and put all the rest in investments?

I have 40k in cash because I like knowing that I could say fuck it, quit my job, and neet for a minimum of 2 years. Anything less would just feel like a vacation.

It feels like it's never enough, because you can't buy a house, retire, invest it into any feasible low-risk passive income or make big investment moves in general
You can buy a bunch of shit and every time you buy something you just feel more broke, even though you have much more than the average Joe
You have to keep working because you want that number to keep growing or at least stay the same no matter what, even though you literally can not work for a couple years straight and be fine
Feels weird bro, I stressed less about money when I had less than $400 to my name with rent due in 2 weeks than I do now

Me too, if I count crypto and usd I'm at $9,700. Have never had five figures before, as pathetic as that sounds, so next payday is gonna be a big deal for me- or next btc pump, whichever happens first.

I'm gratefully in a VERY similar financial position to you anon and this really spoke to me. It's not exactly in cash but it's in a mutual fund that's made consistently decent returns for 5 years (VTSAX) but I'm thinking about money every fucking day. It's driving me crazy, I can't focus on work the way I used to, and I cringe going out to simple dates with friends like a decent restaurant once a week when by all means I can "afford" it

This is all true. Just 3 years ago I was a poorfag euro student with 4k nw, now I am on track to get to 70k in 2025 or even more if bullrun goes really crazy. Very few have so much by my age and I am still a depressed wagie. Being able to quit a job without anything lined up feels good though.

This is a self-defence mechanism and times are very likely going to get rougher so go with your gut. It's one thing being a scrooge and another insulating yourself to some degree against massive economic change.
Don't beat yourself up about the way you feel. If you had been this way 20 years ago it would have been unreasonable. Not so now. Final words; don't allow yourself no joy whatsoever. That's rubbish

Just keep it in something liquid and relatively stable like an index fund or a bond ETF. You can always sell it if you need the money.
Unless you're really worried you're going to suddenly need to spend 20k over the weekend when the market is closed.
