Anyway, why did LTC become so big in the first place? Is it simply because it was added to Coinbase? It seems like a good coin, but not any better than the dozen of others which are valued at a fraction of it.

Well I think a lot of it had to do with that it was the best coin for transferring (mining fees only not the exchange fees included). The only reason I liked it was the average 40 cent transfer fee and the *relatively quick* times to confirm. Honestly coins like XRP and Rai blow it out of the water on that front.
