Lets say someone buys on kyc cex and transfers to metamask. Then the person trades solana shitcoins for several months. Lets say someone turned 10k into 30k. You leave everything on metamask, would the cex be reporting anything to the irs? Sure they know your hotwallet belongs to you, but is anyone actually doing this kind of research on individuals?

Honestly? Just move it to another custodial wallet and sell at the price you received it for on that exchange and cash out. Easy as (assuming you're already verified for withdrawals). Basically the exchange reports you receiving the crypto as a "buy" and you selling at the buy price will mean a market gain of nearly $0. I got away with it in 2022 with Coinbase it's that simple.

the cex wont bother looking through your hot wallet at all, and itd be a huge pain in the ass for the IRS to try and come after you on the chance they find the mm wallet (which may or may not be yours) that you sent money to that made 20k in profits (theres bigger fish, also a pain in the ass to figure if your multiple solana shitcoin swings made any profit in the first place)

maybe deposit a different crypto from what you initially bought and kyc + cash-out on a different exchange to make the moves a little less clear
