What's your golden rule for car spending? So many rules are like "25% of your yearly income". The only one that made sense to me was "10% of your net worth", because it's just a utility. My cars having pretty bad problems, I have 45k saved up, make 80k a year. Spending something like 20k on car makes me feel sick. That's so much money.

If you’re worried about money, $3000 Honda Civic/Accord or Toyota Corolla/Camry is the only correct answer. If you make enough, scale that dollar value until you hit the shitbox/nice car equilibrium

I don't think you can find corollas/civics for this price anymore. God I miss my 99 civic.

You can, maybe not in your area, but they’re out there. Look on facebook marketplace.

Also worth mentioning Saturn sedans and Pontiac Vibes are just Corollas with American bodies

The least possible. It is just a utility. Spend your money on good food and such. And I mean actual good food not those fucked up gold plated steaks.

So get yourself a cheap reliable piece of shit, regardless of your money.

I exclusively buy used cars on FB marketplace, drive them for a few years, then flip them for something else.

All expenses considered (title change, new plates, etc.) I normally "lose" about $1k per flip, but in the long run it's significantly cheaper than dropping $20k at a dealership. A few times I've actually made a decent profit doing this.

Helps if you're handy or know a mechanic, and after a while you'll quickly learn which cars best hold their value (i.e. if you take good care of a truck it will almost always appreciate).

If you do not follow this chart, you’re spending far too much on a vehicle.

If you just want a car, get one for 2k. Sadly car prices have risen.
I wanted an enthusiast car so I spent a little more, it was 5k.

I like Nick's chestnut about
>cheapest CPO Honda/Toyota you can get with extended factory warranty
Obviously doing this:>>58339639 is a very cost effective strategy, but I only recommend doing it if you're car/mechanic savvy and/or have a good friend who is a mechanic. Because if you miss something you could royally screw yourself.

Very based, but I have seen too many motorcycle wrecks as an EMT to ever ride one.
As an aside, why is Sam such a sensitive fag? I have really come to find his constant complaining really annoying. He seems to be a classic self-tortured artist stereotype. At least Nick can relax and have fun. Sam always seems so uptight.

Personally I see "investing" in cars as a bit of a gamble. I wouldn't ever personally get a luxury car with the hope of unloading it to get my money back in the future. The only time a luxury car makes sense is if it would not impact your net worth in any noticeable way.
If you get lucky and are able to liquidate it and get your money back that's just gravy.

This chart never takes into account utility, only commuting to work. I owned a cheap car for years and ended up buying a $6500 1st gen highlander just so I can go camping and mountain biking easier. Even when not camping I throw big coolers and transport stuff for me and my gf in it. Still as reliable as the Camry platform it's built on, but it does more per dollar. Otherwise I'd need a second vehicle, which makes little sense
>>58340030
Nick made it, Sam hasn't yet but also sabotages any chance of doing so on the level Nick has because he needs to be "the creative." Meanwhile Nick has a wife, kid, house, and a good sense of humor despite it.

If you live in the city, 0%
If you live in the burbs, 8%
If you live in a rural area, 14%

>> No.58341655

>>58341546
I disagree with using NW percentage because it can lead to overspending if you have a respectable NWA of illiquid assets but your cash flow doesn't support it. Let's take your 14% rural example. Someone with a $1m NW would be justified in spending $140k on a car, but what if that NW was comprised mostly of $800k worth of house+land, and that person could not easily or reasonably cash flow a $2400 monthly car payment.

If you have 800k in real estate and can't afford a 140k car, congratulations on your unsustainable housing inflation, you should probably sell your house.

Wouldn't say that. He can make payments on a bunch of nigger rich vehicles and he's self-admittedly a renter by choice. I feel like the Porsche and that rare red F40 lookin sportscar he bought are probably investment/content vehicles more than a big flex.
