I just have an old car which runs so good.. I don't bother with insurance and not had one for 5 years. I think insurance is the biggest scam in the US

It's because he hasn't been insured in years.
I never drove without insurance but I did give up on driving in general after high school and didn't start driving again until my mid-30s, at which point I had to pay for the most expensive / lowest quality insurance because that's all you can get when you have no driving history on file. After like 6 months paying for bad insurance you can go back to your agent and request a good insurance deal. It's the same idea as how you don't look good to lenders when you have no history of credit use.

Pretty stupid to not have liability only just to cover your ass in an accident. At least if you actually have money and assets someone could sue you for. If you're broke then just get the minimum your state requires, it won't cost much especially if your state has low requirements for PIP and PDL.

I did have insurance before when An illegal from Mexico rammed my car, . He didn't have license, insurance, police didn't do anything, I had to fix it myself. Fuck this
