Is it a good financial decision?
I live in a designed-for-car shithole city, so I'm thinking of buying a 2nd handed car
but then I'm reminded that it comes with insane microtransaction costs such as

>fuel fee (or electricity if EV)
>parking fee
>toll road fee
>maintenance fee
>insurance fee
>taxation

It's also energy and soul-draining being trapped in a traffic jam
Is it even worth it? or is it wiser to just use the shitty public transport every day?

I'm not sure.

I guess car is worth it if you're the type who go out often.
I only hang out with my friends from old uni and high school like once every 2 months.
other than that, I only go outside for work.
I guess car isn't worth it...

Buy an aesthetic used car.
Use it for road trips only.

Don't forget the registration you have to renew every year and is probably some insane amount if your car is even somewhat new.
Also just wait until your warranty expires and some stupid electronic device goes out and will cost you 5k to repair some tiny part.
Cars suck but if you're a poorfag and need to have one you're better off buying some old junker for $1k and running it into the ground than trying to buy anything new.

yea in my country I have to do pay car tax once every 1 AND 5 years to renew the license plat and card ID card
It sound very annoying, so I guess I won't bother.
fuck cars. I don't get how most people here able to afford it. shit is money drain.

No. If you need one buy a Toyota or a Honda. That runs forever. If you have the cash buy a hybrid. If you’re still trying to make it don’t buy a Ford, Cadillac or Chevrolet. And for Gods sake don’t buy European or Chinese. Buy a luxury vehicle from the US or Europe after you make it.

Just get an electric bike and attach a roof to it.

buy a classic that appreciates, you'll at worst break even with repairs and bills

I have probably the cheapest classic available (a trabant), as the years pass it'll appreciate as more of them die due to poor maintenance

also, make sure repairs are cheap and not more expensive than the car itself, luxury cars will break the bank just in repairs, jaguars for example

bought a used 2019 certified pre-owned honda civic a few years back. cost me 18k total. half down payment half financed at 1.9%

havent had a single issue with it ever, drives great, has all the standard features youd expect... i cannot fathom needing more car than this thing. like spending 30k more for a BMW or Audi for what? a slightly nicer material on the panelling?

I should have gotten a slightly better car like that. Instead I went with a 2014 Nissan Versa Note last year and it almost immediately stopped working in the middle of a busy intersection. Didn't have to pay anything for the new transmission since I had an extended warranty but was still pretty obnoxious to deal with. I'm hoping since it was a new transmission (I double checked on that point and it's not a reused transmission and was produced in modern times so it doesn't have the same defect that caused the first transmission to die) it'll just work like a normal car from now until it dies of old age but wouldn't be surprised if it breaks down again before its time. I only drive once a week to my office (my job's mostly remote since 2020) so it's not that important for me to have a working car at any given moment. I mainly got it so I could get my cat to a 24/7 animal hospital during weird hours of the night if she ever gets sick all of a sudden.

im no car guy but ive heard nissans are notorious for transmission failure. might be a thing with the 2010-2020 models mainly tho

That's right. It was a known defect. I think they had a recall for it too. Makes sense since it was the cheapest car I could find. Will be a decent deal if it turns out the new transmission can last. Has 50k miles on it and I drive it 1/7 as much as a normal person drives so potentially it could still be running and under 200k miles for the rest of my life (50k miles down would mean .75 the expected lifespan which would be 9 years instead of 12 years for a normal driver and 9 * 7 would be 63 years).
