I know several people who cashed out and tried to pay tax on it. They all went to prison for tax fraud, since they didnt follow the rules. You have to report every single transaction, gas fee, and transfer in the last 7 years. Otherwise its prison time.

Meanwhile everyone I know who never pays or reports is living free simply by not doing kyc.

I know a guy who cashed out into stablecoins last cycle and was scheduled to pay a hefty amount of capital gains tax only to get his wallet hacked almost immediately afterwards. IRS still wants their money. He’ll be going to jail soon

The guys who get away with it are rich normies who buy and sell huge quantities of dogecoin on major exchanges that produce 1099s and automatically send everything to the IRS. The guys who will be unfairly targeted arep the ones who get in early on some shitcoin and build a stack for cheap on multiple obscure exchanges, don't report any of it because it's a pita and small change anyway, then try to cash out years later when it moons.
