It’s the same thing we did to Japan OP. You may be too young but in the 80’s Japan was the dominant Asian power, buying up American Land and assets. All the media was fearmongering that Japan would overtake the US in a few years and what not. Then the 90’s hit and the Japanese real estate market collapsed putting the country in a brutal recession that some Japanese would say they STILL haven’t come out of.

Now here is something to think about Japan is a democracy and actually produces things the world uses/needs. I.e. they actually have value unlike China which produces nothing except fentanyl and slave labor.

After Japan lost WW2 it became a VASSAL of America. Ever wondered why Germany is the manufacturing hub for Europe and Japan (prior to the rise of china) is the manufacturing hub of Asia? The difference is that while Chinese manufacturing was initially set up with western investment, the state department never actually defeated china and because of this they never had control of their inner politics. In short, china, until Xi, was effectively a “partner” of the west, while Japan was “owned” from day 1
