Why are gas fees so high? I thought there was an update to ETH a year or 2 ago to fix this. Also, nobody has spare money anymore

yeah didn't they just put out a new update a week ago to? I don't use eth anymore except to bridge to layer 2s because a $40-$50 dollar fee on everything mean the trade has to be a success and you have to spend a couple hundred or thousand just to make it worthwhile

Gas fees are so high, I would actually lose money if I pulled out now. The price is just way too high for retail (that includes me because I'm dirt poor)
