Its not that he took a year off that bothers me, its the mental health bullshit. What does that tell me?

I've worked in tech and I have dealt with deadlines and stress. No doubt it can be a bit hard. But to need a fucking extended year off to fucking "recover" is total bullshit. Sorry man, you didn't come off the Eastern front in WWII. You delivered an api to create a digital twin of a womans scarf. Suck it up and fuck off.

Yes, but Kimi debuted at the first race of the 2001 season. He had hours of experience driving that car before his first race.
He had practiced in the car, tested in the car, and had the same amount of practice time on the race weekend as any other driver.

Oliver Bearman had never driven the car before. and he even missed the first two practice sessions of the weekend.
He had only one hour in the seat before Qualifying.

Any discussion of his debut performance must include those facts.

This. There's a whole industry of creating startups around the latest tech buzzword to slurp up VC money. In college entrepreneurship classes these days they don't actually teach you the skills to develop a small business, they teach you how to market yourself to VCs and the process for working your way up the ladder of higher rounds of funding. 90%+ of "entrepreneurs" in the tech field have very little focus on the fundamentals of building useful technology.

This is, incidentally, why it's literally none of your employer's fucking business why you're using your paid leave. Keywords: Yours, because it belongs to you as part of your employment contract. Paid, because you get paid to make use of it. Leave, because you don't need to be at work whether or not your boss likes it.

So use it, tell him it's none of his business why you're using it if he asks, and send him a followup email saying that you appreciate his request to know the purpose of your making use of paid leave, but you respectfully decline to tell him the specific reasons, and that they are personal in nature. Computer science majors were the absolute worst in school. They smelled and were socially awkward. I studied engineering and had some overlap with them in certain classes. They have a complete inability to work with other people and if there's an alternative solution that their brain didn't come up with, it's impossible for them to do it.

There was an overweight kid who looked like he had never shaved in his life, and he would walk into class wearing flip flops and the cat headphones. He smelled terrible and played some game that looked like genshin impact on his computer (it was before that game came out, so idk what it was). The professor handed out group assignments to work on a project, and he raised his hand autistically and loudly said "I want to be in Jessica's group." Jessica was the only girl in the class of 50 people, and mildly cute. The professor for some reason put him in her group, and he was later removed from the class a few weeks later for what I could only imagine was him trying to flirt with her.

There was another student I had to work with who never showed up to class, and was impossible to reach. My team and I had to go to his dorm and find him, because a component he was working on was due the next day. He said he hadn't even started yet and had no idea what he was going to do. We got angry with him and he said and I quote, "No no hang on, you don't understand" and pulled out a pill bottle and said "I've got this" and took 3 or 4 Adderall pills (idk the dosage not a druggie) in front of us. At 5:30 am he sent us a message showing that it was complete, and it was due in an hour.

Last guy was kind of autistically based, but I can't stand working with those kinds of people in the professional scene. There's a 50 year old dev at my company, and every week he comes in to show me his new DnD dice (he has 3000). I have to be nice to him because he does what I say.

I think everyone who isn't them wants to cut them once AI takes off.

The nice part is that H1Bs are granted by executive agencies so a president could do this without having to wrangle Congress.
Just blacklist any company that lays off Americans while keeping on H1B pajeets, and refuse to grant them the power to sponsor any more.
And they couldn’t even challenge you in court since H1B are supposedly “high skill” visas that are granted when you can’t find any Americans who are capable of doing the job.

AI still can't do the following:

> gather requirements
> clarify requirements
> understand contextual conversation about a business with real people in charge
> write documentation
> demo features to real people
> run CI/CD, deployments, manage infrastructure
> write secure code that adheres to good architectural patterns

Until it can do all of the above while also not annoying the fuck out of whoever is managing it out of sheer unusability, software engineering will still be a viable career. It's barely doing the last bullet point in the current year, LLMs certainly can't write large programs or deal with extremely ambiguous prompts.

Blog post ahead, tl;dr: If you are cool with not going into a soft eng career path, just go into a business analyst path where you will seem smart to boomer management and never get fired.

I may be tempting fate by saying this, but as someone who graduated software engineering but went the business analyst/Product Manger path, I'm feeling pretty secure because most people in this sector are retarded or dont have an analytical mind. They were simply promoted internally. I work for a Top 5 bank in North America, and most of my colleagues started as tellers or financial analysts, now work on strategic/tech projects.

I have 5 years experience, and my corp has had massive layoffs in the last 4 months, but I stayed on, and I think its simply by impressing these upper management/executives types by applying simple computer science principles like object orientated data structures to corporate operations (ex. the back office has 10 departments, structure them all in the same way by default ,assuming they have the same day to day process flow, then "override functions" where needed. This made the boomer directors and VPs shit themselves)
.
My point is, autistic programmers are a dime a dozen, if you knock yourself down a peg and deal with non-technical people and are able to present technical ideas under the guise of it being business process related, you will look like a genius. My job is really fucking easy compared to my engineering schooling, and yet everyone thinks I am the smartest guy in the room. I only even went this career path because I coasted through school, barely passing, playing vidya all day, doing no side projects, and was an awful coder technically (I am actually pretty good at architecture and envisioning how to structure a program, just not the actual coding).
The only downside is I make 10-20% less than the contracted Indians who I tutor to be able to structure their code because they are retarded.

What I posted would never work for them.

I am able to hide my power level, and it helps I am attractive and white, but thats mostly besides the point. If you are OK sacrificing some salary, and going into the business side of things, and can present as a normie, you will coast way more on the business side. I basically have one of those jobs you see those female ex-twitter employees make tiktoks about their average workday where they join a couple meetings a day, send a couple emails, and then fuck around at starbucks,, except I am able to contribute in meetings and come across smarter than I am. Went to college for electrical engineering, and it's amazing to see the different fauna from the different departments.

Electrical engineers were generally very well kept and wore more formal clothing, most were traditionally attractive with good features/jawline/grooming. Many played sports, and their nerd intersts were actually pretty limited. None smelled bad or even had neckbeards.
Civil Engineers had similar physiognomy, but dressed much more casually and were way less straight laced. They reminded me of Business Majors.
Mechanical Engineers had a lot more rural redneck vibes.
Computer Engineering had a lot more dysgenic looking people in it, and were generally more nerdy than electrical engineers, but still were mostly 'normal'.
Computer Science majors, however, were a clown show. About half of them had really weird proportions, many of them attended LGBTQ stuff (this was early mid 2010's), dressed slovenly, and were the only department that even had people that were smelly, and they had a lot of them. Their obsession with nerd culture was deep and very cringe in how they presented it and how often they did it.
What stands out the most to me was this one guy I shared gen-ed classes with for about a year that carried a my little pony plush (this was the height of the brony craze) around with him everywhere. Several people I personally knew from that department straight up trooned out or turned into radical left wingers/communists.
