Manager said job hoppers lose all their political capital so it bad to job hop, but if you don't job hop you lose out on so much wage growth...

who actually right?

Personally I think I can only succeed if I job hop because I’m actually really flaky. I’ll do really good work, but I can only keep it together for a 4-5 months at a time really. My best case scenario is convincing an employer to buy into my BS and front me a title, and then bailing out upward somewhere else.

Still fairly early in my career, so I'm speaking from limited experience here, but it seems like you generally do want to job hop as much as you can get away with.

I job hopped several times, and it does seem like hiring managers/HR stooges are getting wise to the fact that I haven't stuck around more than 1.5 years at any given job. It's come up in interviews during my most recent job search, and it seems like a real point of contention. So in that sense, your employer has like, half a point.

That said, it's definitely helped me increase my income over people in similar lines of work who've stuck with the same company, and the fact that I've been able to walk away a couple times has sort of trained me not to accept so much bullshit. So I'm determined to stick it out where I'm at for a few years, but if it doesn't look like I'll be moving up, I'm gonna bolt as soon as I feel like I've shaken off my "job hopper" scent.

tl;dr Yes it's good to job hop, but be careful you don't overplay your hand, and also I'm right where you're at so I'm still figuring it out myself

it's simple really, do you want to earn more money for your company by not getting fair raises or do you want to earn more money for yourself? Every year you eat a shit raise instead of moving laterally to a better paying company is a year that you have eaten a demotion

Political capital is for normies who rely on office politics to appear valuable. Most /biz/ autists are actually skilled but suck at office politics no matter how long they have been at a company. I’m a skilled autist so loyalty and “clout” don’t jive with my personality type , so I’m always willing to jump ship for better pay.

Boomers stuck with jobs because they paid well and life was comfy.

Zoomers have jobs that barely pay rent (with roommates) and have to deal with crazy assholes with smart phones waiting for you to have a bad day so they can cancel you.

Too true, there’s literally no point getting involved socially with your office when there’s only one approved and more importantly paid personality type.

job hopping is mandatory until/unless you become a very specific asset in a company, or belong to such a group in a very large corp structure, such that even if you're getting ogled by other corps with better $, you dont change your setup.
otherwise its burger. jump. you're a leashed pup if you are staying around for too long. youre getting scammed out of your wages not increasing as it should. dont fall for boomers disconnected from reality.

This, I've increased my wage by $11/hr (making $30/hr) and job hopped 4 times this year. I think i've failed upwards as far as I can go though and will have to stick with the current one for a few years. On the plus side I bullshitted my way into a job that leaves me a lot to learn so I think I will actually be able to stick with it.

My salary from 2008-2016 went from 45k to 56k. Then I job hopped.
2017 - 65k - new job
2018 - 80k - new job
2019 - 95k - new job
2020 - 110k - new job
2021 - 125k - new job
2024 - 165k - new job

Loyalty is for cucks.

>> No.57917911

Nah, job hopping is what you should be doing. If you're at a job for more than 1-2 years, you're objectively retarded, and 2 is pushing it. The ONLY time you should stick it out is when you have a real high paying management job.

I tell employers to their face that they don't care about muh "values" or "political capital" as you put it, they care if my skills are adequate to make them money and the answer is yes. I expect the appropriate compensation for that or I just stop replying.
It's absolutely hilarious that corpos expect you to have loyalty and passion when they would lay your ass off without a second thought if the numbers make sense.

ABSOLUTELY TRUE, GOD FUCKING DAMMIT
I want to be able to afford a house, but it's FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE nowdays, like my fucking grandpa got a house at 20 years old with a job at a fucking SHOE SHOP.
HOW
and he still has the nerve to call me lazy, as if working 2 jobs while studying in college (i barely have time to do ANYTHING) and still not being capable of affording an apartment means that I HAVE A PROBLEM and NOT THE FUCKING CURRENT ECONOMY.
Man, i even invest in crypto to make some extra bucks, big coins, small coins like bigmike, a bit of everything. I can't get a third job, i'll fucking die of exhaustion, this is my only option.
