Personally I think I can only succeed if I job hop because I’m actually really flaky. I’ll do really good work, but I can only keep it together for a 4-5 months at a time really. My best case scenario is convincing an employer to buy into my BS and front me a title, and then bailing out upward somewhere else.

Still fairly early in my career, so I'm speaking from limited experience here, but it seems like you generally do want to job hop as much as you can get away with.

I job hopped several times, and it does seem like hiring managers/HR stooges are getting wise to the fact that I haven't stuck around more than 1.5 years at any given job. It's come up in interviews during my most recent job search, and it seems like a real point of contention. So in that sense, your employer has like, half a point.

That said, it's definitely helped me increase my income over people in similar lines of work who've stuck with the same company, and the fact that I've been able to walk away a couple times has sort of trained me not to accept so much bullshit. So I'm determined to stick it out where I'm at for a few years, but if it doesn't look like I'll be moving up, I'm gonna bolt as soon as I feel like I've shaken off my "job hopper" scent.

tl;dr Yes it's good to job hop, but be careful you don't overplay your hand, and also I'm right where you're at so I'm still figuring it out myself

job hopping is mandatory until/unless you become a very specific asset in a company, or belong to such a group in a very large corp structure, such that even if you're getting ogled by other corps with better $, you dont change your setup.

This, I've increased my wage by $11/hr (making $30/hr) and job hopped 4 times this year. I think i've failed upwards as far as I can go though and will have to stick with the current one for a few years. On the plus side I bullshitted my way into a job that leaves me a lot to learn so I think I will actually be able to stick with it.
