For me

2012

I expected it to hit $10,000 by 2030 at the earliest (lol)

2009
Thought it was illegal so didn't bother to get any at the time

2015 is where I actually tried to understand it, but saw shit before that of anons giving away dogecoin early on within /pol/ posts.

Was anyone truly expecting it to go past $1000? I know I wasn't. Even when I was looking at it, BTC was around $400 each and it felt like a crazy move for retail to put money towards it. I tried mining it and the yield was super slow, mined a few litecoin and feather coin for fun and lost the wallet much later. I didn't really have money to invest at the time, I just thought it was neat.

first heard about it around late 2009 or early 2010 because i bought drugs on the internet, it was about $10 a coin more or less I think, then I heard about it again a few years later from my brother when it was like $400 a coin maybe 2012 or so, I was fully zogbotted brainwashed at the point going from junkie to military so hearing about it triggered my drug days past and I was trying to be straight so I went full "no bruh that stuff is used on the internet for drugs and shits bad bruh" lol

It hit $1300 in November 2013 after starting the year in 2013 at $10

Late 2011. Best friend who was also a user here told me about it (always assumed that he found out about it from /g/ or something). My friend got some and we used it to buy some stuff off of a site on Tor that some of you might remember. He once asked me if I thought it'd ever become super big and I remember saying that I kind of doubted it. Anyways, I didn't really think about it until around 2016 or so and didn't even bother to get into crypto until around 2021.

As for my friend he died in 2012. I have no idea how much BTC he owned but I'm sure there's at least a few that are out of the supply forever. I sometimes think about how he likely would have been a millionaire and how he probably would've convinced me to buy even 50 of them or something.

could've been 2013 but I don't think 2014, I'm getting old anon, that was 10 years ago and the way history has played makes it feel like 100 years ago

2010
Ignored it until 2016. Expected it to reach the price of gold and then stabilize sometime mid-2017 but it kept going and when it crossed $3000 I knew this was some crazy shit.

Mid 2010, through a slashdot post I think. then I kinda forgot about it until late 2010. Probably another slashdot post. Fucking slashdot.

The first big price speculation was whether it'd ever hit $1.
I had no idea what to expect, but everybody on the forums and IRC seemed certifiably insane, and therefore convinced it was inevitable.
Insanity prevailed shortly thereafter.

My memory is foggy, but around early/mid 2013, the price had recently passed $100, and so there were discussions about whether and when bitcoin would touch $1,000, with the wildest among us dreaming aloud of reaching $10,000.
By that point, I had accepted that Bitcoin's price was fundamentally unstable and that no price equilibrium would be reached for a long time, which made the $10K price about as likely as any other.
Then again, I had no idea when it would be reached. I didn't expect $1000 in 2013, and I didn't bother guessing what would come next. I just waited.

In a way, I still do.
