the crash in 2022 was just fantom being affected by the whole bear market Terra Luna crash but amplified by Andre Cronje saying he wanted to quit crypto. He came back in early 2023 and announced that he never actually left and that he is now working fulltime on fantom (before that he was just the advisor). Later last year the most used bridge on the ecosystem (Multichain) got exploited by its owner, which impacted the chain by quite a bit, since a lot of people held stablecoins bridged by Multichain. The funds were seized by the Chinese police and Fantom is currently suing Multichain in Singapore, which will lead to them being able to liquidate and reclaim the assets. Overall Fantom itself was neither directly hacked nor did anything bad, but they are being criticized for trusting Multichain in the first place (Multichain gave them false information about their operation and Fantom blindly trusted them without enough verification). The exploit also led to TVL going down a lot on the ecosystem.

On the other hand, they are about to release a major tech upgrade together with incentives for devs and ecosystem wide airdrops. It could recover given that it is objectively a better product than last bullrun, but it all depends on DeFi activity and regaining trust. If they can recover the exploited funds, that would be something.

I just wish I had gone in hard on FTM back in late 2020, before it ballooned. I was in the FTM threads back then and saw other guys that had 1M or 2M stacks. It was only 0.005 back then. So it was fairly easy to grab a huge stack. I think my reasoning was that this coin had been around since 2018 and had 0 activity so I just thought it was dead. So I put money into other things. Oh well, you can't look backwards all the time. Hindsight is 20/20. Everyone wishes they had bought BTC or ETH when they first popped up. But no one knew they were the ones to buy at those times.
