I like alpha stuff, and I read that there’s only 16,000 production of commons even for Alpha. Everyone I know plays magic, and I feel like A/B commons can go up so much higher as it’s just so collectible.

not really. magic cards have really low liquidity. you'll take a 50% haircut selling cards to a shop and running an online store is a pain in the ass

This. Sites will tell you that a card is $20 but most card shops will give you 10cr or like $7-8.
You can try selling on your own but it could take way more effort than you want to put in to get some value back. Even non-reserve list cards can absolutely tank in value too if they get reprinted.

Meh, I’m not too worried about liquidating. Would be a small fraction of my portfolio, I’m not scared of selling on Ebay or locally either if need be.

Also the p2p trading aspect of MTG is gay. You'll be trading with basically millennial with the "I know what I got" boomer mindset

It can help pay for your hobby NGL. I did some buying and selling on ebay back in college and made a grand or so, which basically let me build decks for free. I do have some valuable cards after sitting on them for years, it can just be difficult to unload them on short notice for listed prices. If you have the patience and dont mind undercutting tcgplayer competition, they'll sell.

I used to like trading but seeing people pull out my chrome moxen and sylvan library and legacy staples, and I review their binder and see pages and pages of new capenna garbage or some meme set I dont give a shit about has become a waste of my time. I just buy the singles I want for decks and hodl them these days.
