How do people get these 6 figure WFH jobs? Are they larping or is this actually a thing?

But what kinds of jobs are these? It's always "I barely do any work," but how? What sort of expertise is this valuable, and how did you qualify for the job?

>> No.57796146

1) I refuse to believe they exist

2) I refuse to believe they actually do no work

Why?

Evidence 1) My job went WFH during COVID for about 2 years here in AUSTRALIA, but the very moment the lockdowns ended and the government said its all good now, my employer wanted me back in the office IMMEDIATELY

Evidence 2) I actually found that I was doing MORE work during WFH than I was working in the office, at work I could knock off at 5:00PM and it was normal and there was no further expectation, but with WFH, for some reason, everyone would still be working until like 7-8:00PM, because "we're home all the time anyway, so why does it matter if we work a bit more hours"

So yeah, I just don't believe the bullshit

Mostly tech jobs like IT, developers, engineers, etc. They absolutely do work. If someone is slacking, trust me it gets noticed.

I asked the same question here, and the only answer I get is

>Oh, I have a very high skill in X, and when something breaks (it rarely breaks) I am required, but other than that, I don't really do anything. So maybe I will have nothing to do for a month, then suddenly something breaks and I'm needed for a few days, then its fixed and I go back to chilling"

But I just dont believe that, all employers want you to at least be looking like you're doing something, being able to explain that you're doing something, even if it's all bullshit, there has to be something going on where you're actually thinking about what bullshit to make up, so technically, you're "mentally" at work despite not working, which IMO is even worse than actually working.

the truth is that if you want to work from home then you have to get a job that you actually love and are passionate about when i work at the kitchen at wcdonalds i love it so much that i spend all my time working hard not counting the hours and not worrying about the pay but yeah if you are some lazy bum that doesn't want to actually work for a living then get one of those stupid crypto dev jobs you don't do any real work anyway other than making fake websites about your fake coins

Apply for remote jobs etc on Seek or LinkedIn??? You're either some highly skilled on-call person or in a job that can track how much work you do unfortunately, for example consultant roles use timesheets and its fucking cancer.

>> No.57796210

I’m hybrid but could go full remote if I chose to do so. I don’t because they cater lunch in the office and it looks better to go in. Sometimes I have shit to do and it’s longer than 8 hours but most days I could do nothing all day without a single email or slack and no one would have a clue. I don’t, because I want to advance and make more money. But I can easily see lazy anons doing this and getting paid easily what I do. 6 figs is pretty much entry level right now in most areas. I’m in the Midwest and there’s entry level full stack positions open for $110k starting

I should mention 1 explanation to this

It is possible that these guys are actually doing what would be considered a SHIT TON of work to the "average" person, but to these people, a shit ton of work is "literally nothing"

So their perspective of doing "literally nothing" could be what the average person sees as working a normal job.

You can apply this "perspective" rational to other things like how much food people eat.

You will always see underweight guys who can't gain any weight on /fit/ always claiming how "they eat so much food" and "just cant gain weight" - but in reality if we see how much food they're eating, they're likely barely eating 1000 calories a day, but from their perspective, the 1000 calories they're eating is "soooo muuuuuuuuuuch fooooooood".

Fat people have the opposite, in that they eat 5000 calories a day, and then claim "I hardly eat anything, how did I get so fat???" because from their perspective, 5000 calories worth of food is nothing for them.

I believe this is whats happening here.

>managers are literally too busy to retrain them so they just stay doing nothing.
This is a big part of it. I have a do-nothing wfh job. My manager only talks to me once a month at this point. He's in meetings with others all day every day. Most of what I've been doing the past 6 months has been gathering info from some government offices. I just send a few emails a week but at least it allows me to say that I'm "working" even though the time it takes me is around 1 hour a week. Multiple times he's asked if I need any more work to do. Eventually I kind of feel bad for doing nothing and will say I'm open to doing anything else he needs me to do. He'll then tell me he'll get back to me later and tell me what I need to do. Then he forgets lol and I continue doing nothing.
