How do you guys cope with the terrible returns?

I'm not even trying to be mean. I think holding some PMs as an insurance against systemic risk makes sense, but I just can't wrap my head around why anyone would make it more than 10% of their portfolio or stack more than $20k worth of PMs and start building wealth in the real world in case the apocalypse you're waiting for never comes

What terrible returns? I don't get returns until I sell, and I don't sell until the apocalypse.
Seriously, I spend a lot of money on car, home and health insurance and unless something goes wrong, that money is gone. At least with PM's, I have an asset.

Why do so many PM schizos keep stacking beyond that instead of investing their money in equities, crypto or whatever the fuck else that provides actual good returns in this non-apocalyptic world? You could even use those returns to purchase more PMs if you'd like. I just don't get why so many goldbugs ignore other investments while stacking something that barely keeps up with inflation. The only people I know who stack gold do so because the rest of their portfolio grows every year and they want to make sure gold allocation remains at 5%. Those people probably buy more gold than 90% of the people ITT while living in great financial conditions both in a non-apocalyptic world and a potential apocalyptic one

Is it? I have family to take care of, so I would double that and add 30.
You have to consider time when you are investing. I have very risky investments that have paid me well in the past, but now that retirement is on the horizon, I'm moving out of risk and into security. Everyone's risk tolerance and investment target is going to be different.
Why do you care so much about what others are doing with their money? Let the schitzos schito

If you are in your 50s, sure, playing it safe is the right move. I'm talking primarily about guys in their 20s and 30s who are taking an ultra-safe approach to investing by putting all their money into an apocalypse-insurance instead of taking risks while they should and still have the chance to. They're doomed to a life of mediocrity if a fianncial apocalypse never comes.

>Why do you care so much
I don't. We're on a board to discuss finances and I just want to understand the thought processes

I can't get my head around how any intelligent person could think that now is a good time to put their wealth into paper investments that are floating on history's greatest debt bubble, or into the hands of institutions that will throw them under the bus the second things go south, or into funds ultimately controlled by an outlaw government, or into the scam-infested glowing crypto casino. Did I miss anything? Anyone who thinks the current world economy can chug along this same path forever is a moron. The question is not WILL it collapse. The question is when. And the prudent man tries to anticipate how to preserve wealth through that INEVITABLE storm. PMs are the best I can come up with.

I know you are a foul, disingenuous creature not worth one moment of my time so this reply is not really aimed at you but at innocent folks who might be lurking here.

Not being able to have a conversation about finances without sperging out and hurdling insults is a clear sign of mental illness. Get some help.

As for the bubble, yes, we are in one. But like a responsible adult with an understanding of risk management, I continually siphon profits from risky investments into less risky investments. This has allowed me to accumulate more than 25 properties with zero mortgages over a period of 10 years, and yes, I even bought PMs worth $20k with a tiny bit of the profits. While you sat on your gold coins which did what, went up 10%?

Most the people on /pmg/ these days don't invest or have a diversified portfolio. I mean, there's a raging bull market in a number of sectors right now while metals continue to crab. Therefore, the kind of person who posts here everyday with an apocalyptic chip on their shoulder, is likely the kind of person to respond in anger to discussion about profit generating investments, because they're out of their field.

As for me, I just like shiny, heavy coins and think they're neat. I have other investments that actually earn me good money. I also think the inverted-pyramid, fiat ponzi scheme, dollar-menu milkshake theory, blah blah blah can continue for the rest of my life. Sorry doomer chuddies, but the collapse isn't just canceled - it was never even on the table.

We should be making as much money as we can in our 20s and 30s, and that entails taking risks. The anons cowering in fear of some fantasy apocalypse they saw in a Hollywood movie are fundamentally risk adverse (they just want to be safe! ah! everything is so scary!). Plus their doomsday prophecy, which guides their investment strategy, depends on ignoring anything that isn't bad news. This manifests by them lashing out and belittling others who invest and make money.

Smart people take advantage of loose fiscal conditions, recognize that it is a bubble, ride it for as long as they can and then get out when they notice the bubble popping. They ride the bubble up 400% and sell after a 20% crash for immense profits which can then be rolled into gold. Meanwhile you missed the entire move from your bunker because the “big crash” has been 2 weeks away for the past 15 years. That’s why you are so angry right now

I think this it lads, this is the beginning of the real breakout we've been waiting for years for, a few weeks back we had the cabal lose control of the price for a few hours because the Chinese shorted the market and it caught them off guard, this time it looks like the real deal, cryptos are mooning, we have the likes of Jamie Dimon, Bezos, Zuckerberg and other cabal members selling their shares of their own companies, The property bubble is popping hard.

This shit could probably still take another few months/years to play out but this is the day, The 1st Of March 2024 that the shackles got broke and our patience paid off.

Land is owned the same way stocks and bank accounts are, I'm not sure why landchads would make it in that scenario.

The bigger problem for gold and silver is that any AGI capable of hacking every account in the world could offer immortality in a paradise simulation, and eventually even stackers get close to death. The temptation to trade everything you own for a bit more life would win out I think. Humanity in general is unlikely to survive a technological singularity.

Though I guess if some refused to join up then land and PM's might be useful. But those people would be so few that they could choose any land or bullion they wanted and just take it. The people that used to own it would be gone. Imagine a world completely emptied because everyone chose to join the matrix.

I got the keys to my house.
And 0 debt to boot (though with some help from my boomer parents, just as they got from their parents and as I probably won’t be able to pay der to my kids…)
But to keep it that way (heating a bathroom probably have to be fixed soon as all this various things you realize you gotta fix once you actually live in a place) I’m probably out of stacking for some time to come. Gotta keep my shit liquid.
But hey, at least I didn’t have to touch my stack!

What did touch however was my trading account. Did get my some quite nice returns. Well, had I touched it today, instead of two weeks ago, I would have much more “money” liquid now, but oh well, hindsight and all that.
But to reanimate that discussion a bit upthread: you gotta take some risks for some possible profit. How much risk? Well, that’s a whole different discussion, but it should be one worth having without sperging out.
Oh, and I also didn’t have to touch my measly bitcoin stack. Really curious how that’ll play out in the long run. Guess there’s a 50% chance that it’ll buy a house for my kids when they’re old enough and a 50% chance that it’ll become worthless. Guess I’ll get another ounce of gold from it, should BTC tech 100k

Ive come to accept that shit like gold and silver, well mostly silver, will never moon unless there is some breakthrough that heavily depends on it or if digital coins cease to exist, until then it will be slow as dog shit. There's no point holding precious metal in this day and age, yea you'll get money back for it and its liquid, but why do that when you can be investing in literally anything else and making more money with little to no risk. Not putting down PMG, its just the reality of things. Why buy a gram of gold when you can just put that $80 or whatever it is in doge or anything other digital asset.

Its stagnant, and some claim its by design, but what good is that, there is no future in it. Maybe something that maxed out anywhere between 12-20 coins, I’ve been using a quarter eagle tube I found for cheap but I think it’s made to hold 40, which is gonna take awhile to fill.

I know sovereigns are a tiny bit wider than eagles but mine still fit fine in an eagle tube

What's extra unreal is the CEX platform will take a fucking month+ to answer to each document you provide them with. By the time you are allowed to cash out (and that's if you complied with an endless list of bizarre demands + not having a single coin considered tainted and/or who was tornadocash'd/monero'd at any point in time) everything will be back to zero.
But if you were wondering how btc is performing so well with zero organic demand, you now have your answer : nobody can cash out, so banksters/governments (reminder the largest holder of btc is the US gov, thanks to all the forfeiture/seizings/IRS assets confiscation they did over the years) can safely poomp it.

Does anyone have a source for wholesaler price sheets? Do those get leaked?

For bullion? what do you want to know about? Stuff from gov mints is usually available on their website. Wholesale prices on bars and generic rounds might or might not be publicly listed.

Ok. I buy and sell coins and bullion though. So if that's the "wholesaler price sheets" you're after I have them or know where to get them.

they're not secret information.

The only secret information you've ever had is where to go in Tijuana for an amateur donkey show.

Based oldfag

Donkey shows aren't secret info and neither are wholesale prices.

e.g.
wholesale tiers and purchase requirements for US Mint products:

Note you have to spend $20k per year minimum and your business has to apply to the mint to buy wholesale.

Checked. When my order is delivered I'll have 400 Merc dimes and 5 Asahi 10toz bars. I'm probably in the low 600toz range at this point, hopefully my brain can stop the desire to stack for a few months.

>your business has to apply
this means they're going to run a credit check on your business, make sure your revenues are high enough, and look for any criminal activity apparent from a credit report and possibly a criminal background check.
You will also need to submit copies of tax returns for the last 3 years, a business license, a tax license, and an ID. This is normal for any retailer buying wholesale. You apply, they check you out, and they either allow you to buy or not.

In that case the wholesaler is just a middle man.
Coin dealers usually buy for less than wholesale prices via auctions, ebay, bourses, or purchasing private collections. We buy from the same sources wholesalers do.
