The US dollar is like this though: 5% on every non-cash payment, required to verify you have $1,000,000 to invest in anything worthwhile, banking fees, blah blah blah. Overall the fiat system takes way more off the top than ethereum does, unless you are microtransacting with a micropenis, so YMMV
