Government is the only decent career path for accounting. 40 hour weeks. 5 weeks off. No busy season. 6 figs. Work from home.

If I had to work at a CPA firm I'd I ironically kms even though things seem a lot better there than when I graduated.

there are very, very few remote (remote != telework) accounting jobs with the fed govt. local/state govt pays jack shit unless you're in a HCOL state like CA/NY/MA/etc.

I cannot imagine anything more cucked than public accounting. Imagine spending your prime years working 60 hours a week because your industry has a retarded hiring and pay-structure. And all that for a slight career boost after leaving, and someone to sign off on your membership into the accounting guild (hope you remembered to get 150 credits! those basket weaving classes are critical to making a good accountant), and then after all that letting your license go inactive because you don't actually need your license to work in the industry job you wanted the entire time, and you don't want to do the cucked continuing education anymore.

It's only cucked if you don't make something of yourself afterward. I'm 10 years in with $245k comp and many others like myself either as senior managers/directors in public or industry.

Or you can leverage those early years into opening your own firm where the sky is the limit on earnings.

Stay poor.

From what I've gathered, it's exceptionally boring, and the pay, while steady, and somewhat above average both in immediate expectation and future potential, is still fairly low. At least "low" by biz standards.

I'm pretty sure the typical career-chaser route is something like:
uni internships ---> Big 4 (2-3yrs) ---> Leave elsewhere to other firms (X amount of years) ---> Know a guy at a Big 4, get hired back on by bringing your client book developed over X years ---> Gun for partner I guess.

Other than just remaining a basic btch accountant at XYZ corpo, you could also open your own firm if that's something you'd actually be willing to really make a concerted multi-year effort to open and succeed.

Maybe someone else could chime in.
