>trusting the white man's computers
See, computers are racist because they make them too hard to use. They need to make them easy like TV, so people in the community can have good jobs. Computers are made by whites and chinese, and they don't like it when we try to get ahead.

gain percentage is straightforward. You multiple the gain % to your principle, you get the new value.

loss percentage on ther other hand appears to be tricky, because you are doing TWO things with one formula.

1. calculate the new value after loss using loss %. (correct usage)
2. using that same percentage and thinking that it will recover your loss. (wrong usage)

think about it, your capital after loss is lower, therefore you would NEED A HIGHER %gain to break even.

example:
$10 * 20 /100 = 2 (profit)
10 + 2 =12 (new value after gain.)

$10 * 20/100 = 2 (loss)
10 -2 = 8 ( new value after loss)
To get back to 10, your principle of 8 needs to have a bigger gain %
To get back to 10, you would need a 25% gain.

$100 - 80% = $20
$20 + 400% (x5) = $100
