The caveat being that the selection pressures go completely sideways when you start importing 3rd world labor because of the downward pressure on wages favoring organizations that operate at scale and destroying consumer spending. See: Canada.

You can make a country really rich and force people to work with the pseudo-enclosure movement of fractional reserve banking (contrast with the idleness seen in poor countries with low costs of living).
