My copypasta:
- For new generic bars, note the premiums (added charges) over spot: they go up for smaller pieces.
- Some beautiful generic items are priced comically high (Germanias, GSM special editions, e.g.). Regardless, dealers may categorize and price these as "generic" (below or at spot) when buying them from you. Or your gamble might pay off if they become highly regarded (Englehard, PAMP, antique miners/refiners, e.g.).
- The firsts of new artful or theme bullion series are often missed by later collectors, who may pay high premiums to fill in gaps. Caution: political or cringeworthy themes are less likely to appreciate.
- Low-mintage series are often priced very high, but may in time increase in value the most.
- Gov't-issued coins cost least during the mint run. Once ended and dealers run out of stock, their prices often jump, then rise a bit faster than generic silver.
- Annual changes to overall designs become series (Somali elephants, Canadian Wildlife, Australian kookaburras or koalas, island nations' series, etc.), adding potential appreciation.
- Maples, Eagles, Wieners, Britannias, etc. are nice and boring, but recognition helps sell to customers more comfortable and confident buying them.
- If you buy pieces that appeal to your sense of art, taste, and interests, you will still appreciate them even if the price or value of the PM goes nowhere. Caveat: if you go to sell, it's harder to let go of them.
- Shipping is an added premium. Many online vendors offer free shipping for purchasing a minimum amount (commonly $200). Your local coin shop has no shipping to charge.
- Vendors may charge extra for using a credit card. That might balance (ebay!) if your card offers cash back.
- Keep all sales receipts and a spreadsheet of your purchases to track profit/loss: it's quite revealing and may help guide future decisions. Example ("PurchaseRecords" tab):
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11oZ4X8Gkgv3oGd_BunwFAHRhS92cfocIcmHzVK1D5s4

Getting out the nicks and dents from circulation will be impossible, rough techniquesnare guaranteed to leave microscratches visible to the naked eye.
Paper towel+meguiars 105 cutting compound gives it a nice polish. Tried it on a copper 2 pence and a CuNi 10 pence. The 10 pence is so reflective it looks like any color it reflects. The penny shined up real nice too. If you happen to catch any scratches youve added from abrasives, rotate the coin 45 degrees to create perpendicular scratches using a finer grit; splits up the lines and increases the reflectivity. Think a bike reflector when it comes to scratches and scratch abatement.

I have read the Great Taking and believe there is a non-zero chance some of these paper claims can implode. However, given the nature of the entire global monetary system imploding, I believe that I can stand to make so much money on my PMs that I can easily surive 80-100% losses on my broker portfolio. I invest in some of that shit including mining stocks, meme stocks etc in the hopes that there could be profit potential. I made a spreadsheet which can show the potential scenarios I can forecast. Such as gains/losses in stocks, PMs and cash etc. It's pretty basic math and it may even be skewed when I do not break down my stocks as being also exposed to PM prices. But any multiple of PMs moving higher can easily make up for the comfort of collecting dividends in the preset. I think stocks MAY act as vacuums and help soak up some dollars if inflation is real. So it is nice to have value outside of PMs that I don't want to sell.

Remember chuds, that Gold was $250 dollars an ounce in 1999. Thats right. So that is one hell of a return if you loaded in 1999 and sold today. Also gold will keep going up in value as long as money is being printed. IF BRICS is established and other major global currencies dump the dollar, Gold will moon like never before. Good investments go up in value, maybe throw off some divides or interest, crap like silver you pay a huge premium and then it loses to inflation.

You and anyone else can mail and sell 100+ oz loads of silver scrap for 92% of spot price to www.prospectorsgoldandgems.com and they pay after it's melted, weighed and assayed but it'll be via check not cash. There are other refineries that may pay more but you might need to be a relevant business or undergo KYC or a background check to work with them. Weighted stuff and knife handles etc. will need to be broken down, and they of course don't mess with plated junk so double check everything. Lots of old sterling is collectible and worth more than scrap so research anything promising before having it all melted.

I've used them numerous times since 2020 to make me bars from loads of scrap silver, there are only a few full time proprietors of the operation so it can take a while for them to refine and finish making the ingots but as far as I can tell they've been honest, i haven't had any issues besides the waiting but for a simple straightforward sale it should be much faster.

>I've had some huge finds on valuable sterling over the years like forks from Gorham's Old Masters set, a Tiffany Jack and Jill spoon, and old Navajo sterling. The stuff I'm looking to sell has got has zero collector value

Sounds like you know what you're doing! If you have any pics I'd be interested to see any favorite pieces you've lucked upon. If you have any fancy antique Asian import silver or smalls like thimbles, tea infuser balls, tiny salt spoons, "vesta" match cases, pill boxes, vinaigrettes etc. set them aside for further research or sale as group lots as they tend to fetch a good premium, but I'm sure most of what you have is indeed just scrap. Double check any old American coin silver too, pieces from certain towns/states or silversmiths are worth many times spot.

Over the last month or so I’ve been able to find very low premium bullion at coin shows, I got a 10g pamp bar for $655 (in assay, spot was at $2030), and a few days ago picked up a 1/4 ozt krug and a 1/4 ozt brittania for $510 each (at $2015 spot).

Dealer had the coins priced at $540, I asked him if the price on the krugs were “current” and he said he could do $510. Lots of these smaller dealers need capital, people in this economy aren’t buying as much PM’s and as long as you’re respectful/not aggressive when you haggle you’ll find some great deals really close to spot price.

And yeah, everything was above board and legit. Coin shows are like gun shows 15 years ago, deals abound.

The debt bubble looming in the economy means everything else we own could implode 80-100% in value. In that scenario physical capital and valuable materials like PMs can keep you out of the breadlines. Most people assume the world is post scarcity and pay no heed that we can import so much production and have such cheap prices because the world is buying our debts. This arrangement will not last forever as we ourselves can't even pay our bills without printing up trillions. Why would you want dollars when we can't even pay interest on our own debts? People pretend like finance is some magical thing that you can't understand. And really all it has is momentum which is why bankers are so deathly afraid of deflation. Part of the momentum they hope to garner actually comes from them trying to actively impoverish you, too. So when someone tells you you live in the strongest economy of all time just feel free to laugh in their face.

I am a literal apostle of Jesus, don't worry bro. Walk with God and love Jesus and pray for your eternal salvation and you will be richer than Bill Gates. Even the least man in Heaven is greater than the richest king on Earth. The modern class of neo-elites have messed up really badly and they don't even realize how much trouble they're in. They don't realize just how poor and helpless they really are. Evil always fails in the end, either in this life or the next. They're murdering babies by the millions, did even the Canaanites commit evil on this scale? Were the Sodomites this corrupted?

I've seen some crazy stuff bro, I've seen undeniable proof of the Christian reality we live in. Whatever is going on inside your head tell Jesus about it in prayer, let everything out and hold back nothing. God has power over your mind and He can help if only you seek Him. God created you to have a personal 1v1 relationship with Him; all the gold and silver in the world could not purchase your soul. You are a unique mind and heart of eternal value. God cherishes you infinitely more than we cherish our stacks. God is infinite and has infinite time for everyone. Existence is good if only you have faith in your creator.

When I was a true stacker, I liked the 10 ozt bars. After I got a bunch I realized the designs are mostly really boring. I had also accumulated a fair bit. So then I started getting samples of other sizes for the for the novelty, - 1 kg, 100 ozt, 100 g, tiny ones...

Now I buy by design. If it's pretty, I get it. These are mostly 1 or 2 ozt. For stacking, I now do concentrated metals - gold and the '-um's.

Generic and pop silver hasn't gone crazy though.

Several issues have slowly gone up in value and stayed up. Nothing has gone crazy, nobody is trampling people to get a cabbage patch kid. People have just started collecting ASE's and pandas and pickle ricks and shrecks and lots of other crap of dubious worth. Enough people to sustain higher prices on the secondary markets.

In the end what retains value is up to the whims of collectors, and some whims die out fast while others last centuries. The idea that modern collectibles won't hold value is just that-
an idea.

there's no particular factual basis to the idea aside from the fact that collectors have historically believed it much of the time. What people believe can change. There may come a day when Franklin Mint sets are worth as much as a house. It's not super likely, but it could certainly happen. Weirder things have happened. Weirder things are happening right now.

The reverse of this is also possible. It's possible that numismatic items will be worthless in the future. It's hard to say. If you went back to the 70's-90's and told americans that stamp collections would soon be worthless they'd think you're crazy. But here we are, stamp collections are mostly worthless.

What holds value as a collectible is up to the whims of collectors. Any outcome is possible.
