It depends on the job. My first job was a part-time stacking shelves at a supermarket. You got 300 euros for waking up at 3 am and doing back breaking labour. 1970 median home was $24.3k and median household income was $8730. Median sqft was ~1.5k. 24.3k/1.5k=$16.2 per sqft.
2023 median home is 440.3k with a median household income of $70784. Best part is realizing how much it costs employers to go through the hiring process. I use a week or so of vacation each year doing this. I apply for a job, get hired, go to the first day or two, then disappear. I use my vacation time from my real job to cover those days.

This is a real thing. I'll get an interview and realize I'm worth more than the person interviewing me and the whole dynamic changes. I really like to talk to restaurant managers and do some quick numbers on how much they expect to pay me and rent in the area, then allude to their $1500 that they're making and how they literally have to have roommates or a wife that works and then they're expecting a worker to work for an $800 check. I'll go to all the meetings, push just enough code to keep the code reviewers off my backs. I'll end up being let go in 8-9 months, but not before I've been drawing 5x 10k/mo pay checks for 9 months while dicking off entirely.
