Hi all, I'm a 24M living in London and I've been trying to secure a trainee patent attorney position, specialising in life sciences for a while now and have had no success, I haven't even had an interview and have just been turned down each time, even for open days.

For context, I have a Bachelors degree in Biomedicine where I got a 1st but at an average non RG university, I also have a Masters degree in Molecular Medicine where I got a distinction with the highest grade in the cohort and from a top RG university. I also got some good practical experience in this time by working in a hospital lab and doing research. Currently I'm working as a Customer Success Manager at a tech/software company. I have previously read that in life sciences theres a bias towards those with a PhD but I have also reached out to the firms I've applied for and asked for feedback, and they have just said that my qualifications and experience is strong and relevant but there was just better. I have also reached out to people on LinkedIn and asked for advice and they have said similar things.

Im feeling really dejected with this now and feeling like I am just wasting my time so I just wanted to know if anyone has any more advice on this or if there is actually no hope, I'd like to know too. As another year rolls around and positions open I'd like to maximise my chances in securing a position this time if I am even 'eligible' for one.

Thanks for any and all help!

Biotech PhD here. Sorry to break it to you but a masters ain't going to cut it. That's the bottom of the barrel in life sciences. Heck, even half of the PhDs are garbage.

But sounds like you are trying to enter a law related subfield? Maybe get some qualifications related to patents or property rights first.

It'll cost me 5000 dollars to get patent qualifications. I wanted those companies to pay for it that's why I wanted to get in and do it instead of doing them first

When I tried getting a job for 2yrs and couldn't secure a good one, I ended up opening a YouTube channel with a blog that I now monetize via Hydro Online.
The pay isn't much but it's better than the peanut I was being offered by employers

If you dont have a part time job / internship at the company you want to work for after you graduate while doing your masters who then offer you the position when you graduate it’s over.

Did you guys not have dads or what? Uni grades only matter to get the part time job while studying then after that you have to impress your boss and colleagues to get the full time contract offer.

If you miss it it’s back to wage slaving at McJew forever.
