Ok, let's assume I accept the comparison with gold. Why would any one crypto currency be more valuable than another? And how is the ratio of the crypto to fiat currency even regulated if not by an unhinged desire to make money off your purchase?
While I can appreciate the idea of instantaneous and decentralized transactions, this method of exchanging value must be adopted into all possible kinds of interaction in society (like fiat is now) in order to fulfil that function properly.
Right now, the absolute majority seem to treat crypto as a means of gambling and getting high returns on investment, which really isn't what a currency is supposed to do.

>Why would any one crypto currency be more valuable than another?
History, usage, collective belief, issuance policy, lots of stuff. You know how many times people have forked (tried to make their own version of) Bitcoin? Lots. Most failed because they were judged inferior.

>And how is the ratio of the crypto to fiat currency even regulated if not by an unhinged desire to make money off your purchase?
Oh buddy, let me tell you about forex trading. And this manga about it...

>this method of exchanging value must be adopted into all possible kinds of interaction in society (like fiat is now) in order to fulfil that function properly.
Here's the wild part: It doesn't. Do you use physical bills to pay your rent? What about Japanese Yen? Egyptian Pounds? Currencies don't need to be all things to all people at all times in order to have some value.

>which really isn't what a currency is supposed to do.
As crazy as it sounds, Bitcoin's volatility has been going down and stabilizing relative to our old friendly fiat currencies. But there's always a volatile gambling element, whether you're talking about Continental Dollars or Deutschmarks or Yuan.

Got about 11200 in debts to pay off. Half that is a personal loan with low rate so I don't really care about that part. The other is credit card with more getting added to that pile, depends on what insurance covers on remaining dental work. But the cost of a filling is roughly 240 per and the big whammy a crown is on tap to. (dental work is not on me, but my wife). Crown is $1000? somewhere close to that I think. Anyway I could do as I've been doing, paying it off bit at a time, which would take awhile. Or drain my emergency fund to a sickeningly low level paying all of it off in one go. But leave me hanging in the wind if something else came up. Could also sell some of my stocks but that'd only fuck me over long term from hitting my divvy income target. So it seems no mater what I'm fucked. Aside from paying it off a bit at a time that is. Life's a bitch. If it wasn't for the dental work and other assorted things just biting me in the ass over these past few years all at once I wouldn't be in this mess. I'd be paying off a low rate loan and that'd be it. Just watching the KO divvy rain down 4x a year.

I'm talking about leverage as in prop trading, or being able to do like 100:1 scaling, although in this case it's two different things
On one hand, having a larger bankroll (even if it's not yours but you keep profit splits) allows you to take a relatively safe approach to trading and enjoy more capital on your wins. The other is using leverage in the form of margin and simply using it to have more concurrent (risk appropriate) trades

that's exactly what I've been trying to evaluate myself, desu the miners look like the best leverage on BTC especially considering the possible future price of BTC, I'd be very surprised if it even 5x. The miners seem to always out perform BTC during the pumps
why MSTR and not HUT sir?
also are you going to wait for the pre halving pullback from BTC to hop into MSTR CLSK and MARA given their current prices or just jump on the wagon now?

Those charts back up what I'm saying. Miners being up 600% in 2023 while btc being up 150% could be because they are pricing in future price movement. Meaning going forward they could underperform btc.

Don't let anyone know about your wealth. They beg you for money, and when you don't give, they damn for eternity. But if you do have to give, give less than necessary: it gives the assumption that you're somewhat strapped for cash, but still willing to help out. It's a little Machiavellian, but I'm telling you, it's not worth the moral headaches once people know your wealth.

As for having wealthy friends... It's not wealthy friends you're looking for.

Technical analysis (chart tea leaf reading) trading goes like so:
select your candle period (only one. say 1 day candles)
going through like fifty different chart indicators and prune them with backtesting
eventually settle on a set of maybe three to five that all work fine in tandem. Meaning you usually get a trend going if all of them agree to buy or sell at a particular time.
You will know the rough accuracy rate of your bullshit widgets based on your backtesting
Buy when the bullshit says buy, sell when you decided you to sell as a profit take and sell again when your gizmos say sell or short
Keep doing this

Basically you are making an algorithm based around a few chart indicators. You can inject your intuition in to this but in my experience it's a bad idea. Not taking signals because you FEEL they are wrong is at best a 50/50 coin flip and will perform no better and possibly worse than just blindly following what your asshattery says to do

Didn't the last time Bezos sold a bunch of shares, the stock price tanked a lot down to $83? Seems like the top is in and there will be a BIG market correction this year.

>no standard currency, too much competition
BTC is like 50% of total market cap, ETH 20%, and Tether (lol) another 5%: https://coinmarketcap.com/charts/#bitcoin-dominance

I think it'd be much dicier if there were just 1, since that implies no innovation or flexibility to try new things.

> slow transaction times
There's a reason Lighting and various layer 2 shit has been getting built out.

> very difficult to buy crypto for a normie. exchanges require KYC and a shit ton of regulation just to get started
As of a month ago, Boomers have ETFs, normies have had Robinhood and Coinbase for forever, and nerds can use the pumped bags from those first two groups to flood capital into new projects. Analogous to how Boomers DCAing into SPY end up funding Nicaraguan microcaps.

> literal transaction fees for things as simply as withdrawing and moving money
Buddy, let me tell you how a company called Visa makes its money. But like slow transactions, this is one of those big, known problems a ton of nerds continuously chip away at.

Back in November 2021? Yeah: https://www.secform4.com/insider-trading/1018724-4.htm

But, to be fair, everyone with a pulse (including the Fed) was bailing from the market then in advance of rape hikes. We don't have that situation right now.

WE CAN DANCE IF WE WANT TO
WE CAN LEAVE YOUR FRIENDS BEHIND
'CAUSE YOUR FRIENDS DON'T DANCE AND IF THEY DON'T DANCE
WELL THEY'RE NO FRIENDS OF MINE

SAY, WE CAN GO WHERE WE WANT TO
A PLACE WHERE THEY WILL NEVER FIND
AND WE CAN ACT LIKE WE COME FROM OUT OF THIS WORLD
LEAVE THE REAL ONE FAR BEHIND

AND WE CAN DANCE
AND SING

WE CAN GO WHERE WE WANT TO
THE NIGHT IS YOUNG AND SO AM I
AND WE CAN DRESS REAL NEAT FROM OUR HATS TO OUR FEET
AND SURPRISE 'EM WITH OUR VICTORY CRY

SAY, WE CAN ACT IF WE WANT TO
IF WE DON'T, NOBODY WILL
AND YOU CAN ACT REAL RUDE AND TOTALLY REMOVED
AND I CAN ACT LIKE AN IMBECILE

AND SAY, WE CAN DANCE, WE CAN DANCE

Oh I missed this post last night I can fill you in on how they are doing now.
Ginger on the far left - works in the weed business now, ended up getting addicted to heroin for a few years, got arrested for it, and ended up getting clean. Has a very nice girlfriend but financially is probably ranks 4th out of the 5 of us.

Chick in the middle - she married the guy on the far right. Makes very good money in the insurance business now doing some corporate office position.

Guy to the right of her - probably one of the more unfortunate turn outs. Lives with the ginger on the far left. Ended up going full /pol/tard and never really recovered. Works as a dishwasher at a local restaurant. Still a good friend though. Going to try and convince him to get a better job soon.

Guy on the far right. By far the most successful. Works in digital media, advertising, and marketing. Has done some very notable projects in the past. About a year away from starting his own company.

There ya go. Obviously everyone knows my general situation so I don't have to go over that.

I am glad about the opportunities the stock market presents itself but I do miss not thinking about this shit 24/7 and waking up with anxiety that I have to make it before it is too late and FOMO.

Was better just being ignorant of the SP500, NASDAQ and just doing my 9-7 and sitting behind my gamestation happily ignorant of everything going around.

I think that one dude will put a ring on her finger sometime this year. Judging by how "in love" they are and whatnot. Also there's the whole "kiddie" thing to. She's 34. Clock's ticking down for healthy kid. Plus if she were to retire to be a full on mother well better to go out on top.

Romeo, save me, I've been feeling so alone
I keep waiting for you, but you never come
Is this in my head? I don't know what to think
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring
And said, "Marry me, Juliet
You'll never have to be alone
I love you and that's all I really know
I talked to your dad, go pick out a white dress
It's a love story, baby, just say, "Yes"

how big difference is between accumulating and dividend etf/index in performance?
some time ago some anon said that dividend is better
i ask because dividend is taxed by 15% in my country, but if i sold funds i held for longer than 3 years i don't have to pay tax from it

you have to remember most of smg is in NA, also have a lot of tax advantaged accounts
we leafs can even trade options tax-free in a TFSA (just no tax harvesting obviously if it ends in a loss)

dividends dont matter as in it's just a form of shareholder returns, if you DON'T get taxed on them, they can achieve higher returns than the general market, e.g. canadian banks on a timeframe longer than 15 years with dividends re-invested no tax (or at least dividend tax credit)
You re-invest the profits back into more shares for yourself rather than the company burning more cash into ESG bullshit or something

if you get taxed 15% foregin witholding on top of what the companies are already getting taxed on, then maybe you have better risk-reward options in your country

>dividends dont matter as in it's just a form of shareholder returns,
i should clarify people mean they dont matter as in it's ANOTHER form of shareholder returns, and as long as the underlying business is solid

Apple could have been giving higher dividends instead of share buybacks, and you'd prob end up with same returns unless tax fucks you over (hence why Apple focuses on share buybacks instead), but to be fair even these tech companies like had non-neglible dividends before, even MSFT had close to 3% around 10 years ago
