I'd say take the watch apart if you know how they work to get an idea of what's wrong, but if it's proprietary, it likely has odd shaped parts that are embedded in a way that is hard to see. I think it's odd you can't get an estimate. They should tell you the max repair price, assuming the worst possible outcome for a randomly stopping watch, and the most likely cause. I am most certainly not a pro photographer, one who is posted these two photos taken during a shoot for a realtor. The top photo is a camera shot, the lower a phone. If you saw a phone shot on its own, you'd probably think it's nice. When you see it in contrast with a camera image, you can tell the dynamic range is different, colors more vibrant, details retained in the areas with extremes of lighting.
A phone is basically a pinhole camera - it has good depth of field, and it's kind of crappy across that whole field. In low light, a phone will up the ISO and you get extremely grainy images.
Phones distribute the information adequately, but big glass and big sensors make a huge difference.

I'm not really up on what's available. I made my choice by downloading manuals for many models of the Nikon brand and reading them the discover what features were available and useful to me. I bought that model used on ebay. But that was 9 years ago, and I haven't really looked since. It included the lens all for $500. Then I added a cable release to avoid touching and shaking the camera. Power supply is bonus. Tripod is actually for a binocular parallelogram mount, but I rarely use that.
