>Roth IRA is $6,500 (last years cap)

How does my Roth have a fraction of the value but almost half as much gain as my 401k? My 401k is a 2060 target date fund and my Roth is mostly VOO. Shouldn't my target date fund be very aggressive? I pretty much only buy ETFs anyway because all this investing stuff might as well be rocket science unless you studied it in school

Nope, the most aggressive target date funds will ever get is effectively being VOO and even this far out from retirement you're probably not even in 100% equities.
Target date funds are only really good if you're planning on buying an annuity when you get access to the account. If you're planning on drawing it down you should just be in VOO, VTSAX or possibly a fund with some international diversification and be in 100% equities forever.

because your 401k only holds shitty mutual funds which may have big expense ratios compared to the etfs you can hold in the ira...less selection too. my 401k is good and i have access to vinix which is just voo with a slightly higher expense...but most of my coworkers use the target funds which got their shitters ripped out by the bond holdings the last few years
