Name one flaw with Costco's business plan.

Protip. You Can't

costco is the perfect company. from their re-use of their shipping boxes instead of plastic bags is genius to their membership deals encouraging shopping is perfect

Sears like expansion into other markets (auto, travel, funeral, etc) and the liability from relying on third parties to provide those services to members (legal liability and brand dilution).

I work in a costco that just opened ~7 months ago

The profit margins on merchandise is so small that they count on new membership signups way more than you can imagine

My store has not nearly reached the expected # and has lost about 1.1million last time I was updated

bullshit

I've sold truckloads of Nabisco and cadbury to costco... They usually mark up 30% on everything in that store

it's only been open 7 months... Do they really expect to have a full customer base?

also, why the fuck are they telling you profit margins, p&l, etc...

Canadian costco here, they mark up some shit and other not so much, electronics, furniture, etc. a they also have a "never loss lead" mentality, example the bakery barely skims through, but never loses, memberships make the company functional but the mentality keep it floating above the rest

They are fucking rock solid. I wish I had bought their stock about 10 years ago.

It may be a good stock but its a gay company to work for. I worked there in high school and it got worse by the time I left junior college. They purposely schedule you for less than 40 hours a week so they don't have to pay you full time benefits. Also their pricing strategies are deceptive.

This guys has it, im applying to tax shops and other accounting related areas because though your pay "increases" its not at a rate where you can't do better if you think for yourself. benefits are "nice" but not great. free membership is honestly what's best outta there, also im canadian costco guy if that helps

Pay increases like 50 cents every 500 hours or something? Its caps at $21 I think.

>>575933
They pressure members into buying the more expensive "executive" membership when no one really needs it. It gives you 2% cash back on your purchases EXCLUDING GAS. basically you need to spend like $2500 a year at costco to break even for the extra amount you're spending. Membership is their main profit center. Also they purposely package things in weird quantities so you buy more than you expect. ie something will be $1.99 but you have to buy a ten pack of that item so it will end up being 19.99. Anyway I could go on about costco. I guess its okay to shop at but I think its a bit wasteful

bruh don't go yet, what's your WHSE #? if not city? Winnipeg 549 here, and yeah 50 cents every 500 hours or so which is "nice" but not great i went up about a dollar in a year of part time (35h/w) and FT looks awful, easier to swing out and use the skills (which they give you. such as handling upwards of 10k in cash a day) to move to somewhere better.

I have the Executive AMEX account and this is where it shines.

Executive account by itself isn't great but the fact that I have an AMEX card makes it great shopping at there as I can get 2x the cash back.

2% Cashback from the membership itself (purchases made at Costco)

And whatever AMEX rewards I get
- 3% Gas
- 2% Something
- 1% Something

I've gotten more than 200-300 dollars back at no extra charge to me and I consider that as a benefit since I pay off my CC debt every month, incurring no interest charges.

Riverhead? My old boss Jovel runs that place now. Good for him, really, because he's got not as much of a big challenge us in Queens has to face with a century-old, badly-needed-renovation warehouse, cut hours, and polarizing, self-warranted New Yorkers that cause more harm than good.

The problem is they put the average farmer's market out of business by offering palettes of genetically modified garbage at a cheaper price then most other corporate competition.

It's not how many palettes of shit Costco sells. it's about how many stores they open up. They are in the real estate industry not the Wholesale foods industry.
