Mind you, I didn't put that money into PMs either. I just thought I'd need the cash soon but I was wrong.
On another note, the fact that it would've only been 300+ ounces of gold really put in a new light just how incredible it is that anyone ever had chests full of gold coins even if they weren't 99.99% pure.

Set aside the aussies' 6 pences and florin, plus the victoria's half crown. Look up the date on the lone 50c frogcoin, if it's 1897 (unlikely), 1903 or 1911 you are comfy. Same for the swiss 50c coins, tho iirc there aren't any super-rare dates, but they always are a popular choice who easily sell above spot.

Mining stocks are risky and purposefully suppressed with some very serious political risks involved. In the event of some serious movement in PMs you will likely see nations nationalize these resources. Or they could get heavily taxed. Most nation's central banks hold dollar reserves. Ask yourself if they will allow themselves to get wrecked financially and then turn around and honor the profits to foreign investors/shareholders? Most nations will be revaluing their natural resources for trading purposes once the purchasing power of credit implodes.
I own various mining stocks because the profit potential could be worth the risk. But most of my minors and speculative stocks have been blood-baths -80%. And they often recalibrate their share price and cost me $40 in fees occasionally.
I've had all of my shares in GSS go poof a couple years ago. I got a small payout but I think the company shut down.
I would still prefer to own mining shares located in America. I would prefer to own majors such as NEM as they own mines in America.
But to be honest, 90% of your exposure to PMs should be in physical imo.
If I do see movement in PMs and my mining shares I plan to sell the riskiest holdings first.
>>57522995
Back in the 1960s mining shares were doing 5x-100x. It's pretty astounding what can happen if you have money in the right place at the right time. Even NEM from the early 90s started as a penny stock and now pays out like 400% dividends compared to what the starting price was. My concern is the political risks and they just steal the mines. They are just too damn important.

>> No.57523239

>>57523084
FDR subsidized mining by offering to buy at 2x spot from the producers. It lead to China losing its silver standard because all of their silver rushed to the U.S. Market.
There could be a soft “nationalization” of mining through government subsidy. If history repeats in that way, the mines would be left to secure massive profits. However recent history shows that nationalization by force buying failing companies is probably the route they would go.

>> No.57523262

I choose physical exposure for a variety of reasons.
>Cash without going directly through banks
>No counter party risk
>Barter
You can lose paper profits by not exposing yourself to the paper gains. There is the dream of making it big off miners and them converting to physical. That approach acknowledges that physical is actually the best position in the first place. I’ll just stay physical.

Short answer: Scottsdale Mint, which mints coins for several countries, including the US.
They're coins. Many banana republics commission mints because thy don't have the resources to do it themselves. For example, most Brit commonwealth countries use Pobjoy.
Some mints want to be able to sell silver without having customers shell out for local gov't "Gibmes". An example is the Bavarian Mint in Germany - they reached out to Somalia to have a sovereign entity license the mint to put the country's stamp on the coins. No doubt those countries get a cut. This is reflected in typically slightly higher than generic costs (though many fine generic mints charge an arm and a leg, like Germania or Le Grand).

Tbf i understand he can be frustrated, i would to if i had to pay to fuck this meso-crap. Maybe REEEing at /pmg/ is the only way he found to keep it hard in presence of the toltec ork lel.

But him doing it every single day thinking he's on a virtuous crusade really makes it extra cringe on top of being completely pointless.

Hate this kind of self-righteous cretins who are 10x more cancerous than the invisible enemies they pretend to fight against. I really hope for him he simply is a bored troll, but i fear he might legit be this retarded.

My new Britannia just arrived, it's so beautiful. I never thought I'd admire anything made my the British, but I simply couldn't resist getting this one. I also just ordered two different Credit Suisse bars cause I find their lore fucking hilarious.

I started getting into gold stacking back in December and I clearly prefer bars, mainly cause they have serial numbers.

Anyone who has some advice for a fairly novice gold investor? I'm looking to keep it at around 5-7% of my portfolio. I'm well over half a kilo now.

I really don't care if it's ATH. It's a long terms saving device, and I have almost 2 more kilos to slowly acquire an oz at a time to have the 7% allocation done, so I'm not really worried. Besides, gold doesn't seem to be retardedly priced at the moment, and everything suggests it's gonna see a rally over the next couple of years, but besides that, I see it as a savings device, not an investment vehicle.

Many thx, kind stranger!

And welcome aboard, this is a rather lenghty voyage, so make yourself comfortable.
May i introduce you to my last purchase? This is an auction i just won 2min ago for what was sold as "2 tiny old silver coins". But i got the boomer-eye, so i dug up and noticed it was coinage minted during Norway's occupation by Denmark.
Specifically 2 skilling coins from 1692 & 1708, respectively under Christian V & Frederik IV ruling.

Being the only bidder i got 'em for very cheap compared to their market value, so today is starting under great auspices. Got few more slurps in the waiting, hope this will go as smoothly.

Hejsa danbro, and sorry, "occupation" was poorly worded since it was an alliance, but that's how they call the coinage made back then.

Personally i was introduced to it by a fren here we call scrapbro, and loving history, i was immediately hooked up. Especially on ancient greek coinage, which is incredibly beautiful.
But there is no magic formula, you simply delve into a period you like then look at the coins. Numista and CGB are great resources to find ancient coins.
If you have some time in your hands, it can even be profitable, you identify coins sold as unidentified, or lost in lots and flip them online.

I have tons of fun doing it, each coin i find/purchase become an excuse to look up on who was the ruler, what happened during that time, etc.. It feels really special to hold coins 2 millenias old and knowing what men went through back then.
