I knew a CPA who was bar buddies with my dad (another CPA) and he was getting legally heemed by the SEC because this guy was the lead partner on a GAAP audit of a Chinese travel company. One of the tests the auditors are suppose to do is a confirmation test of the receivables to make sure they are legit sales. You basically send a letter to the company who has the outstanding receivable with the company under audit and ask them to verify the receivable balance with their records. Turns out none of the receivable confirms were getting sent back to the auditors and it's because the addresses for the companies that allegedly had these outstanding receivables were actually addresses for public bathrooms all throughout chinkville. And this guy at the bar who was the managing partner of the audit decided to ok the statements anyway
