Yes its offline storage aka cold storage. You plug it in with usb and then move your crypto to the trezor or ledger. Then it cant be hacked unless you plug it in again;.

I understand the concept, but it seems dangerous. What if you lose it in a house fire or it gets stolen or whatever.

You can backup your seed encrypted via an offline PC and transfer to a live pc and then upload in the cloud to many service providers so only you can access the key in the future, problem is this is completely unacceptable if you need to actually move your crypto, but you can't just decrypt the key on your live pc because that could put it at risk, so you use the trezor which also has the keys. This way you have a secure key stored many places that cannot be easily accessed, but you also have a secured key you can easily access (and easily lose, but not suffer losses from).

Brain harder. Keys are keys.

Ok I sperged out a bit.
Your keys encrypted and stored several places are not a hardware wallet. You do not suddenly have 2 hardware wallets.

If someone finds your hardware wallet they're still likely not gonna access your key, and if you do actually lose your hardware wallet you should have the foresight to move your crypto to a new wallet just in case.

>>57384661
But how do you move the crypto from one hardware wallet to the other? Do you need like a pairing cable? I bet those cost extra too. Not worth it for most people.

Hardware wallets only store your keys in a device. Your keys are still on the blockchain and can be hacked through MiM attacks if you download any extensions related to your wallet. A Trezor or Ledger are just a fancy way to hold your keys in a convenient place that can't be hacked per device. But again, if you have any extensions enabled you're fucked if you use a weak password. That's why you don't trust airdrops anymore.
