Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't people paying into a 401k doing so under the assumption that they will be able to retrieve it at a later date as distributed to them via an automated system under the control of the current power structure? Is it wise to trust the current power structure to pay you back in 40 years? Even if it is hypothetically willing to, can it? Will it even exist in its current form 40 years from now? Something about this 401k practice seems sketchy to me.
