They have capital. They buy BTC at lower prices. Basically they pumped BTC from $35-45k. So their average is somewhere around $40k. They can do this to “satisfy demand” on launch. But now they are selling all their BTC for $46k so roughly an 11% profit plus they rake in fees. How is this hard to understand? Eventually yes they will need to spot buy but no fucking way they don’t dump it first. And on top of that the volume today will NOT be repeated tomorrow or any time soon.

one of the unsurprising aspects of today is secondary exposure vehicles like MSTR and RIOT got crushed.
However, I wonder if part of the reason why miners got hit so hard was that it was miners selling their inventory via OTC to the ETFs.....so essentially the balance sheet assets of miners just go transferred to IBIT, etc...

regardless, 7B in purchases represents about 150,000 BTC. So that inventory has now been wiped out....will be interesting to see what next week brings..

i believe the more trades get made, the more they make -- same as the fund managers. don't know the specifics. index funds are automated, literally just the exchange has an API and the fund manager systems consume it and auto-trade according to what it tells them, more or less in lock-step.
managers occasionally have to unroll mistakes made in the portfolio when the index data is wrong. happened to URNM a couple weeks ago.

Here is some more information about the amount of time that they have for settlement

"The iShares prospectus specifies that the settlement deadline is on the calendar day immediately following the day the Trade Credit was extended, or the next business day if it’s not a business day. This suggests a T+1 settlement cycle (Trade Date plus one business day) for the ETF transactions, quicker than the standard T+2 settlement cycle for many securities."

I'll say this again for the third time for the slow people..

THEY (The ETFS) have 2 days to settle.
That means that they do not have to buy the BTC for 2 days....

That's AFTER they use up their current holdings. 28 Billion for Blackrock and any OTC they can get off of Coinbase which is 60 Billion, both as of this morning before the ETFs launched.

The same exact thing happened with the Gold ETF. I was flat for 2 weeks and then all the held back Gold was bought up and they had to goto market to buy it. The ETF took off like a rocket and has never retraced.
