ARKB. It has lowest fees and is run by Catholics.
If you're jewish, one of the the 10 other ones is your best bet.

Wait what does custodian mean, does that mean all the bitcoin that Blackrock have purchased are sitting in Coinbase? Or that they have to buy and sell using coinbase.

1/2 a billion already purchased today by retail investors. Wonder when the funds actually have to actually buy the BTC.

So if coinbase gets compromised, the ETF just goes to 0? Isn't an ETF supposed to be safer?

>> No.57261737

Pretty sure it just sits in cold storage. The ETF is for boomers, 401Ks, and people that can't into self custody.

>> No.57261797

>>57261712
Well Etfs bought at your brokerage account are backed by insurance, so less of a risk.
Also those companies are worth trillions of dollars and they are trusting Coinbase.

Bitcoin is taxed HARD when you sell. In an IRA or 401K you can buy and sell as much as you want at 0% taxes, until you withdraw the cash at retirement age..

You probably knew the last part, but I just mentioned it for others that might not.

Why the fuck would you buy the ETF when you can just buy BTC directly yourself? Are you retarded?

So that you can expose your tax advantaged (regulated) retirement accounts to it. Simple as.

>> No.57261870

because it's the only way to buy Bitcoin in retirement accounts.

Also every time you sell bitcoin you have to pay taxes on the sell even if you immediately buy another asset.

Example. You buy Bitcoin at $1000. You sell it at $50,000 and immediately buy ETH. You owe the government taxes on $49,000. Well what happens if you ETH invest goes down 50% ?
Doesn't matter you still owe the taxes on the BTC sell. That has to come out of CASH in your bank account.

In a retirement account, you can buy and sell as much as you want and pay ZERO taxes..

that's why.

How hard?

Depends on you tax bracket and how much BTC you sold.
At least around 30%

Problem is that you pay taxes even if you lose money over the year.
Say you sold $200,000 of BTC in January and your initial cost basis was $20000
You owe 36% taxes on $180,000. but let's say bitcoin goes down 50%.
At the end of the year you have to sell enough bitcoin to pay that 36% in taxes ($64,800)... but now your bitcoin is only worth $100,000... So you have to sell either 65% of you portfolio to pay taxes OR you better have $64,800 in your bank account because the IRS will make you pay your taxes.

If I sell BTC now at 46k with the position I've built up over the last several years I'm paying at least 10k in long term cap gains. If I had built up that same position in a Roth IRA using a BTC ETF I'd pay 0

30% at least if it's a short term sale.
15% or so if it's a longterm hold (Over 1 year)

Yeah well people think that if they don't withdrawal the cash, they don't have to pay taxes. They think it's like-kind trades like with stocks.
