I have known about BTC since 2014 (I was 18 and thought it was stupid and didn’t see it as an investment) and I still haven’t made it. Let’s see if anybody can beat me. How far back do you go?

I saw bitcoin before it had a price but i came across it on a "paid to click" site and usually they have scams. so i thought it was a scam. Then a few years later i saw it again but there was a price like 2 dollars. I didn't look into it because most things I saw online were scams. Plus I was also young and unknowning about many things. then a few years later again me and my friend saw a video on youtube about chinese bitcoin miner predicting bitcoin going to 1 million dollars, this was when bitcoin was at 200 100 dollars or so. We both laughed and continued to smoke weed and video games. then later we heard bitcoin hit 1200 dollars. we didn't pay attention still. THEN we heard it crashed massively after mtgox or whatever went down. we thought. so this is the end of that scam... some time passes and bitcoin is again at 500. I want to buy. Then I get a GF and forget about bitcoin cause im having sex and doing drama life. my kyc acccount is ready and i could have bought at 600 but forgot about it because girlfriend drama. we break up a year and half later. I buy bitcoin at 3000 bux. (2017). and there are probably a lot of people who had a similar story. things come into your life but you don't always recognise the opportunity.

I used my Pentium D powered personal computer to mine Bitcoin in 2010 when I was 16. The computer was in a the office room of our house so naturally I'd get bad looks from my parents if I had left it running overnight. I mined for a ~40 hours at most. I've since reformatted the HDD a bunch because all the warez and other software frequently grinded the speed to a halt.

just think about that Gold man. he was told about bitcoin around a dollar and never looked into it, a wealthy investor that knew the ins and outs of market and finance. and he still hasn't bought. Peter shiff or something. He is a bigger retard than you fren.

we can atleast blame it on being young and unaware / not paying attention and being unknowning.

Was being shilled it around 2011 as an extension of the poker scene on 2+2 forums as a way of circumventing US gambling restrictions. Even considered playing poker with Bitcoin as the sites then were soft but decided not to because I didn’t like the idea of my bankroll being in a volatile asset. I had a better chance than most to get in and still ignored it like a fucking retard.
Semi made it with Painlink after I finally joined the hordes in 2017 though

I remember hearing about Bitcoin for the first time in January or February of 2011, the price was around 30 or 40 cents at the time. I was unemployed 18 year old at the time and didn't think too much of it. On /g/ at the time threads started popping up it, pool mining was just a few months old at the time and some people on /g/ were mining it. I think I mined for a day on my shit computer at the time, earned maybe .1 BTC but I thought this was a waste of time and forgot about it and lost that wallet.

The threads on/g/ back then were not all optimistic about Bitcoin for the most part. 1 Bitcoin going for a dollar was considered by most an absurd idea that was never going to happen because Bitcoin had went up from 1 cent few months ago to 30 cents so obviously it was going to crash and it would be over.

I didn't end up putting any effort into understanding what Bitcoin was or buying any till near the end of 2020.

Ultimately though you shouldn't feel too bad, plenty of things have pumped over the years and hindsight is 2020.

I don't get this "I heard about Bitcoin in 2010 and didn't buy" mentality. Even if you had bought, you would have sold at the first 10x. The only people who got super rich were people who forgot they had it and suddenly found out it was worth millions.

>started buying eth up from $15-$120 in 2017 on the toilet, browsing /biz/

>See my portfolio at $500k in 2021, sell nothing thinking it's going way higher
>Portfolio now worth $130k
>At least I still have 10k linkies
All in all, could be worse. Anyone who complains about $100k+ in the bank when they barely invested anything (in my case, maybe $1.2k USD) is mentally broken. This ought to make you feel better about yourself though, and I assure you my story is closer to the typical reality/life cycle of a crypto investor than the false-reality you have convinced yourself of where everyone and their mother is becoming a millionaire buying dog coins. 90% of people are exit liquidity, you want asymmetric leverage and time in the market > timing the market and gambling.

Was a BS Computer Science student in 2009. Our professor taught us about Bitcoin, how it was supposedly an "experimental online currency", but it was decentralized.

I had enough knowledge to have a general idea how it worked:
using asymmetric encryption, you can have a private key to sign transactions with, and everyone can verify it using your public key.
And "miners" created blocks of transactions using a hashing algorithm, and the hash had to have a preceding number of zeroes, this was the mining difficulty that periodically adjusts itself.
And the block contains the hash of the previous block, creating a chain of "spent processing power" that cannot be counterfeited (PoW), and they got rewarded new bitcoins for it.

But he neglected to mention things like the halving, or the 21 million limit.

So I had spent several years explaining Bitcoin to friends who would read about it somewhere, but didn't know the value proposition and scarcity aspect.
I thought it was just another version of MMO gold.

Then I heard about Silk Road, and of course I thought, that was a logical use for it, so I avoided it even more, being in a country where any involvement in drugs could mean the death penalty.

Then I finally read about the scarcity of Bitcoin in 2017. So I decided if it was gonna be that rare, gotta get some, a whole coin (or a few) would be nice.

Then I was surprised it was in $1000 range each, when I remember faucets gave away 5 each a pop (which I just ignored, as I had already wasted years of my life on MMOs, so I wanted to avoid getting addicted to anything similar anymore)

Could've been set for life, but I guess my professor was "kind" enough to omit anything that sounded like it could pull us in, thanks for protecting us from "being scammed"..... could've been set for life......

I remember reading in the summer of 2010 about the famous use of bitcoin to buy Pizzas.
However I also remembered previous attempts at digital cash during the dot com boom of the late 90s which all failed so I didn't get too excited.
Then in 2013 I was reminded of bitcoin and crypto funnily enough by the dailystormer website of all places.
I kept an eye on it but was scared off by things like the MT GOX failure.
One thing I was puzzled about was the libertarian branding of bitcoin as an attack on central banking and money for the people when in fact it's traceable so I started looking into privacy coins.
At the time the main ones were Monero and Darkcoin later rebranded to Dash.
I bought some Dash in 2016 at around 10 dollars because it seemed to have more hype around it and it started to increase in price in 2017.
It reached 100 dollars in six months and I sold it because I thought the top was in and in the stock market a ten bagger in that short time span is a very rare and an excellent performance.
I was delighted with myself.
Anyway the damn thing kept going up and up and I watched in disbelief as it finally hit 1,200 dollars in early 2018.
I'm quite a conservative investor but never actually bought very much bitcoin concentrating instead on alt and memecoins.

Found bitcoin randomly around 2010, but I was just 14 years old back then. I became genuinely interested, downloaded the wallet and tried to mine it using my laptop. Seeing the very small numbers appear on the screen discouraged me. Also saw some faucets online but the small amounts of BTC they gave away seemed like a waste of time.
Discovered 4chan early 2017, bought LINK but also some dead projects like Substratum, LAToken, EOS, Bounty0x, ARK and stuff shilled by DataDash. Mined some eth with a few GPUs. My opinion hasn't changed much in that regard and still will not purchase btc no matter how many millionaires it makes because at the end of the day, it's still useless imaginary numbers on a server that will some day soon be obsolete by AI abilities to crack it. Not to mention the more time that passes the likelihood of a Carrington event approaches 1.

I'm not going to argue with you about how bitcoin is successful despite a severe lack of merit or tangible value. OP asked a question, I answered it honestly. I have no regrets about my decisions with not investing in crypto. It was a huge gamble and to have made it you would need levels of delusion to hold through the ups and downs that will make many of you hold through it's death cycle.
I'm happy for those that have found success with it. Good for them. But go ahead and make fun of me for a more pragmatic approach with far less risk that still leaves me plenty comfortable at the end of the day.
I'll try not to run it in to hard when your useless technology goes to 0.
