Why investment banking in particular? Isn't IB just:
>VPs and MDs look for firms interested in purchasing or merging with another firm.
>analysts and associates 'analyze' the firms and present data regarding their assets/liabilities/etc and how to reconcile all those between the two firms in order to facilitate a smooth transition towards a purchase or merger or whatever.
>'Investment Banking' firm collects a fee, relevant VP(s) and MD(s) get a cut for sourcing the deal.
>analysts and associates get the leftover scraps (albeit still a shit ton more than the avg. person gets paid, though at the expense of 80-110 hour work weeks)

What did I miss? I don't see why this in particular is worthy of reading about beyond memoirs and whatnot, I'd appreciate if you could elaborate on the motivation for including that.

It goes into the process of forming an IPO, a merger and a leverage buyout, as well as other basic info on financial securities.

It also delves into what motivates an investment banker to choose a certain company or industry, how they value shares mathematically and some of the creative accounting done by companies to avoid poor valuations.

If you already know all of this then don't bother with the book as it's pretty surface level knowledge, but it's one of the better "for dummies" books if you know very little about finance or the ins and outs of investment banking.

I include it on the list because a lot of people don't know much about finance (including people on this board) so it may be relevant to some, but maybe not to you
