ICP's promise of being a "world computer" falls flat.

ICP cannot run just any application. The application has to work with the ICP SDK, which is incredibly confusing and under-documented.

If you have an existing application written in C, for example, you cannot simply port it to ICP. Applications running on ICP have to be designed to run on ICP.

This chain is a senseless piece of middleware that adds unnecessary complexity to programming projects. It would be much better for a blockchain to provide a specific service, such as database or compute, that can be plugged into existing apps.

ICP tries to be everything, and by doing that, provides nothing. It would have been much better if they had solely focused on the backend, but they *had* to add in this ridiculous WASM frontend shit.

Note that I do not think that the ICP concept is bad.

Having a decentralized compute and storage powered by blockchain would be a good thing. But the ICP implementation is awful, and is a pain to deal with for programmers.

If this project gains traction instead of a different project being created that addresses these issues, countless man-hours will be wasted putting up with the idiosyncrasies of ICP.

Smart contracts can be used to provide database functionality already using networks such as Ethereum, AVAX, Solana, etc.

The key difference with ICP is the ability to provide computation features in exchange for cycles. This goes beyond simple database functionality.

Dfinity botched it by trying to incorporate frontend features, however. A true compute blockchain should have no frontend features, instead having a simple, easy-to-understand API for accessing the compute features from any kind of frontend.

Are these including locked tokens or just sitting in wallets. Then if its counting neurons are you summing all of them together with the linked account or counting them individually.

There is no way to access ICP's functionality from a desktop application, for example. Sure, Electron apps are a thing, but that carries the extra burden of a web browser.

binance and coinbase both have not restocked their stacks. They add a little here and there but nothing serious since it would move the price too much. On the pump to $11 they froze withdrawals as well

What can you do with a desktop application if the internet is out for blockchain wallets? You can't send anything to anyone so its pretty much the same scenario but you just see a number in your desktop app

In terms of projects that look like a good alternative to ICP, I think that Filecoin looks promising.

The problem with things like Ethereum is that they don't have enough data storage, are too slow, and have too many fees.

https://icp.deliacapital.com/exchanges-balance-and-flows/

Half of ICP's total supply is staked for 8 years, the amount of maturity/inflation is dwindling over time. ICP is undergoing the perfect mix of supply shock, and hype, and massive adoption. $100 is guaranteed, we might even go higher than $500 if the bullcycle prolongs.

I can go to any device go to the nns and login through my internet identity depending on the authentication method you use. I use a yubikey and I can pretty much just go anywhere and immediately access my funds. Then you can link several yubikeys, ledger, and a seedphrase to your II and set each one either as recovery or just login. If you lose one you can just remove it from your II

Desktop application development provides better performance and more flexibility.

I struggle to understand web development, but writing desktop apps is not a big deal for me because I get to pick the languages and libraries that I use.

You can do a desktop application with ICP you will just need to be able to connect to the internet to actually use it same as any service that relies on the web but ICP devs like to do everything in the web since the paths have already been laid out. It can be done but most devs might not see a point when you can do it on a web browser. They do mobile apps but obviously that's a little different
