>just checked out the trading ledger of my old kraken account from 2014
>turns out I had actually mined 590 000 dogecoins using my mediocre GPU while I was a student back then
>sold it for a low sum in end of march 2014 - it would have been worth $377k in 2021
>I also had bought 0.54 BTC at the same time in 2014 to purchase an ASIC miner from China but BTC took a dive in value so I cancelled the purchase like a retard
>I then spent the 0.54 BTC on various ICOs in 2017 which failed to launch due to ICO hype dying down and coins started dumping when hitting exchanges
>two of these ICO tokens could have sold for 20-30x if I just had set a sell order on binance and forgot about it but I left them languishing in my wallet for 6 years because I didn't notice they got listed on big exchanges. They are worth about $1.5k now.

What are the financial implications of this

to be in crypto is to be filled with regret.

I used to have half a million in crypto, my portfolio used to be worth 36 BTC, hundreds of ETH. I first purchased Bitcoin in 2014. I have nothing now and pretty much over that.

What still pisses me off though, is the fact that I wanted to buy Bitcoin way before 2014 but couldn't find a way to do it.

BNB, BTC. Going to buy some ICP but not a ton.

I remember looking at a website selling bitcoin in 2009-2010. 20$ would have got me tons of BTC but I was too lazy to setup A WALLET, so I didnt buy shit. I also decided to take part in the Eth ICO after BTC became a real thing, I set aside 800$ for it but then promptly forgot the whole thing. Laziness has been a burden all my life looking back. I am lazy, intellectually lazy.

I've been in crypto since before /biz/ was a thing, and there was just a general on /g/.
I still haven't made it, despite always believing in crypto. Op's story is pretty much the same as mine.
However, you have to remember where we came from.
Even today 99% crypto projects are scams, and back then it was even worse. There were so many new ways to lose money, even simply buying them was a massive pain in the ass. I remember not buying 10 BTCs for $200 because they kept asking documents so I desisted, as there was no guarantee I'd actually get my shit anyway. Localbitcoins was the only way to reliably get them, but it came later on.
Not to mention the fact that you'd have to hold throughout the years without selling all while not losing your money in the zillions of possible ways.
Basically the only way we could have won is if you simply bought A LOT of bitcoin back when it pretty much WAS a massive scam, then went into a coma for 10 years, then managed to somehow cash out successfully. That was not happening no matter what, so no point in crying about it.
Regardless, I personally learnt a lot of lessons along the way, even about myself. Expensive lessons, but useful ones.
I am sure I could have actually made it a long time ago if I actually tried, but I chose instead to focus on my life rather than on gains that I would very likely have lost anyway. And it was probably the best decision I could make.

That sucks, I was also lazy in a way. Back when I first tried to buy Bitcoin it was 2010 or 2011, I was at work and read an article about this internet coin being used to buy drugs and the FBI couldn't stop it, that was enough for me to say I'd drop $8,000 into it because at least that would be "money out of the government system". Couldn't find a way to buy it, not with debit card, not at all. I remember going home that day and searching google for ways to buy but finding nothing. I believe I did find information on mining though. However I was working a job that sucked all my time, so I was like "fuck that I don't have time for this shit, just let me buy with money, that's why I fucking work!"

I often wonder if I was broke and unemployed instead would I have mined Bitcoin and become a millionaire, because then I would have been sitting on my ass all day and would have had the time to do it (get into mining). I'm also autistic when it comes to keeping stuff, I still have files and emails from 20 years ago, so I know I wouldn't have lost the BTC, not that way anyway.

I wasn't even aware of this website back then to go on /g/, I was googling Bitcoin and getting no results, even if I could have gotten the Bitcointalk forum in results that would have been good, but not even that was showing up in the search results it must have been really early.

Basically various version of both "don't be greedy" and "be greedy", how to detach yourself from your investments but not too much, how to research, but mostly various dos and donts of the trade and a whole lotta experience in how to avoid scams.
It can be boiled down to: buy solid projects low, hold while you enjoy life, for the love of God DO NOT MARRY YOUR BAGS, take profits when high and convert them to real world assets.
It's more about developing strategies on how to handle your money, but it's all something very personal that you have to learn yourself, often by slamming your face into it.
Such is life.

>>57164223
You would have sold early and bought back in the top later.*
Many such cases.

I've been pretty good at buying solid projects low but the hard part for me is knowing when to sell. I know I shouldn't marry my bags but somehow I always miss the top or close to top at least. It drops a ton in a day and I just refuse to sell. I think for the next bullrun I'm gonna set stop losses.

Everyone who’s been in crypto for a few years has a dozen coins that would have made them a millionaire if they didn’t fumble. I’ve fumbled way more bags than I’ve secured. This is part of the game we play
