In the US, bus culture is vastly different from the rest of the world. Some Americans have to drive their car just to get to the grocery store, buses aren't kept to high standards and are also stigmatized. Americans wish they had double decker clean reliable bus services like the UK. But even I noticed here in the UK people who have cars tend to look down on public transport. Maybe it didn't used to be like this, must be Americanisms spreading.
