? I'm not sure what that is.
Anyway... also check out the European old coins - the Latin Monetary Units. They usually have a very low premium - like 2-4% - and range from .12 ozt to .24 ozt for good prices. But you have to have patience and shop/compare prices to find good deals.
Also, don't let /pmg/ tards bully you into buying something through peer pressure. There's good advice and bad, and everyone claims theirs is the best. Make your own judgements, only you know your situation.

yard sales only work in a homogeneous community where people aren't assholes to each other. It's a way of socializing and if people fuck with each other and steal stuff and act abusively it just doesn't work.

When I was a kid was the golden age of garage sales because tons of people had stuff to clear out and tons of boomers were bored on the weekends so I'd ride around on bikes with friends and buy junk with money from doing paper routes. I collected hundreds of thousands worth of vintage games because you could buy NES+30 game sets for 10 bucks. I did this from age 10-maybe 14 and it was a good part of my life desu.

Nowadays with multiculturalism, zero trust communities, take but never give mentality, and e-commerce garage sales are pretty much done.

One of the reasons IMO it worked is because it was hard to figure out the value of stuff but now with google and e-commerce there is no reason to sell stuff for pennies on the dollar.

what kills me is I saw lots of vintage luxury watches during that period and they were going for PENNIES compared to what they are now. I saw lots of vintage watches at the time but didn't even understand what they are at the time. I even saw a vintage rolex submariner and the guy literally said "its old but it'll probably be worth something some day". Would have taken 50 bucks. It kills me thinking about it. The other gold mine that is long gone is comics. I bought huge, huge collections of 30's to 50's comics for pennies on the dollar that you would never ever see today

the only joy I get with second hand goods these days is cash for gold shops because I like used gold watches and cash for gold shops can get you good deals and are way less hassle / dangerous than private sales with strangers.

>> No.57139435

>>57139393
>it was hard to figure out the value of stuff but now with google and e-commerce there is no reason to sell stuff for pennies on the dollar.
Everyone has a hustle and grift because of it now, which is highly competitive and a race to the bottom. The resale rats pick through everything before anyone else has a chance. Video games and instruments got hit hard with it and prices follow auction values and retail list prices that aren't reflective of actual sale prices. You already saw this happening in the 90s but it came to a head around 2004-7. Most of your gun show and flea market sellers are legitimate businesses and not private sellers for lack of a better word.

>> No.57139492

>>57139435
when I talk about garage sales I mean literally riding around on a bicycle looking for garage sale signs posted on trees and then going into some elderly person's basement. I graduated in 2005 so would have been doing this 95-2001. And, as I said I bought multiple giant comic collections and video game collections with the money I made running a paper route after school delivering flyers which was maybe 40 dollars per pay check.

This kind of thing I can't even imagine being possible today because of safety -- who will let strangers into their home? Because of google and e-commerce... etc.

Maybe I experienced the end of it. I wasn't even doing it with profit in mind. I just didn't have enough money for new game systems and felt like my money went further buying collections of vintage games than it would have buying new stuff. Same with comics. I bought giant collections of golden age stuff because I thought it would be cool to read them and it wasn't until years later that I understood what the value was.

I also collected an absurd number of pic related. I wish I still had them but I had several giant framed cork boards full of pins that I collected during that period. Same with baseball pennants... I collected tons of them during that period.

Garage sales are just a part of white autism I think and will be gone with every other part of our culture once we are totally demographically displaced.

Garage sales are like metal detecting. They're only fun if there's some gold nuggets in the mix and if you don't get lucky every once in a while it's no longer fun. As I said-- in canada at least I think garage sales are long gone.

I used to see many old treasures sitting on shelves at used bookstores, game stores, etc. You could really score some good deals on stuff you actually wanted to read/play/whatever.
But amazon killed the bric and mortar stores, and people started hoovering up anything they thought they could make a buck with by reselling on ebay. This along with all the retro collectorino videos on youtube created a bubble. Now I don't bother buying anything at all, except maybe old silver and gold coins (but only if the price is gud). Because at least I know the value of Ag/Au will only increase from here on, relatively to everything else.

I am think estate sales really are king at this point. Greedy zoomers looking to offload grandma and grandpa’s belongings for a little bit of extra cash. They don’t know what they had, and don’t care, as long as long as they have some cash in their pocket. Zoomers seem to be the ones who will let shit go for very cheap if they have no use for it and have better use, in their mind anyway, for that money. Gen X seem to be the biggest penny pinchers and hagglers, in my experience, worse than boomers even.

yeah, there are always diamonds in the rough if people are buying and selling big lots of stuff from different categories. I have a pretty big collection of gold jewelry and heavy 18k watches I've gotten for good prices from pawnshops, cash for gold shops, etc. the thing with gold jewelry and watches is that it is a type of collecting that you can never really complete because its so expensive. lots of heavy gold watches are 3000USD + worth of gold and there is lots of crazy stuff out there. There's on I want that is close to 400g of 18k that a consignment shop in the states have... but desu I worry even if the price is good that It'll get stolen in the mail.

less about greedy zoomers, more about inventory and time costing money

take it from me; i work in hollywood (evil). i am a set dresser and at the end of a show we strike (get rid of) the set. typically we do a fold and hold or will pass the stuff to another of the productions shows, but i have also seen it plenty of times where the contract on the building space lease is coing to an end and everything must go

we donate and take as much as we can, but we still throw god stuff away (it burns my soul). we scrap
>good conduit, unused PVC, lumber, etc.
>books, dvds, kitchen gear, yard tools, office supplies, etc, any number of smalls for background fluffing
>furniture (i have furnished like 2 whole houses)
>old bikes, filing cabinets, all sorts of metal

if i have the time i fill a 5 ton truck with all the metal and dump it for .09 cents a pound on the company dime. still though, epic amounts of waste

estate sales are often the ame mentality, its gotta go and if i can get .10 cents on the dollar of its value to be rid of it then lets do this. the people selling arent in the business of holding and reselling

It hasn't.
It has performed worse than the S&P by a long shot if you don't include dividends. If you add in divies, stocks do thousands of times better.

gold is one of the worst possible long term investments over the last 50 years. Silver is about the only thing you can find that actually performed much worse than gold. Both are easily beaten by the stock market.

It's worth knowing however that people who pick their own stocks (/smg/, /cmmg/) tend to underperform the market and may often lose money over the same time period that people in index funds are making millions.

in that case stocks are a much worse investment than gold or silver, mostly because individual investors think they're brilliant and usually aren't, and individual stocks often suck ass even when the whole market goes up.

This is the reason you buy precious metals and keep them yourself rather than store them somewhere else. Diversification is another reason of course.
Stacking silver or gold is mostly about a somewhat low risk and inflation proof investment, more so gold than silver. If you've got spare cash lying around and are happy for it to sit as gold for 20+ years then that's why you buy precious metals. You don't run the risk of your "safe" stock suddenly becoming worthless because the CEO diddled a kid or the government changed legislation that made them profitable. You don't run the risk if property values tanking or new tax laws making your investment a monthly loss. Precious metals are about protecting your money, not earning you money.

People talking about precious metals hitting the moon are idiots. IF society were to collapse, having shiny rocks won't save you and if anything will make you more of a target. Straight after a collapse and for quite a while afterwards things will be extremely chaotic. Resources, tools and experience will be most important. Silver coins won't help if you don't have food, clean water or a know how to treat a bleeding wound. Silver/gold would be for the stable period after the collapse, when large communities have formed and need a form of currency to trade resources.

It's all a meme. I personally stack because I like coins and think they're neat. Pic related is my commemorative stack, around 150 tr oz.

There are easier ways to say you've never studied any part of human history. What do people grab when there's a natural disasters or conflict? Food, water, clothing, blankets. They bury their valuables so they can come back to them, but you don't want to be laden down with them, which is why you get pic related all over Europe.

> I guess everyone will be laboring for free
Paid labour happens when you have established communities with stable resources. Until then you're getting paid in water, food, shelter and safety. Your work you eat. You're confusing the period of stability with the period directly after the collapse. Stability can take decades.

> Spent all my money on silver and forgot to stack food and water bros!
Enough food to survive for months during the chaos? Somewhere safe to grow food? The knowledge to grow food? The knowledge to survive through winter? Precious metals won't help you.

Believe what you want, but if you're stacking for an eventual collapse you're an idiot.

>And if there was a massive financial breakdown gold and silver could still be quite useful
"They" control the market and our entire financial system, so they wouldn't allow any sort of financial collapse that wouldn't benefit them in some way. Print more money, introduce new laws, assassinate people, create new wars and all sorts of things they've done in the past. The only sort of collapse we'll have is one they've planned. As such, we won't get one where "silver goes to the moon". We'll just get increasing costs, rising prices and the devaluation of FIAT which was my original point. Precious metals, specifically gold, are a "safe" inflation proof investment; that's all.

The ground was unstable, and you had to get through almost 700 feet of loose overburden, pumping enormous amounts of water out the whole time. Every now and then one of those shafts opens up and a house or a garage or a person falls in. My town is swiss cheese, most of the mines under the town were never recorded.

the ore sits right where it always was, it's too hard to get to. Not worth the bother.

No they ain't packing out their bulky sterling silver table services, those got buried or hidden, but whenever feasible they absolutely would have carried whatever wealth they could.

Your pic related is from California, and was buried because the rancher didn't trust banks. Most caches/hoards found today weren't buried because of an impending collapse or invasion, they were just a convenient way to keep money safe. It's stupid to categorically claim that people would have buried their wealth prior to fleeing natural disasters or conflict and only attended to the immediate physiological needs in Maslow's hierarchy. cash transactions and evading taxes is still possible, but it gets harder to do every year and eventually will be impossible. When that happens, you'll find the break-even went from a couple years on gold or a couple decades on silver to well over a decade on gold and a lifetime for silver.

because for every dollar of inflation the metal gains, the IRS takes 30 cents. And at that rate it gets pretty difficult to catch up.

I got some pretty good copypasta for you about american banking/political/economical integrated history. if you want it!
>The Panicof 1819 was caused by the rapid resurgence of the European economy after the Napoleonic Wars, where improved agriculture caused the prices of American goods to drop, and a scarcity of specie due to unrest in the Spanish American colonies. The situation was exacerbated by the B.U.S. under Bank President William Jones through fraud and the rapid emission of paper money. He eventually began to call in loans, but nonetheless was removed by the Bank's directors. Langdon Cheves, who replaced Jones as president, worsened the situation by reducing the Bank's liabilities by more than half, lessening the value of Bank notes, and more than tripling the Bank's specie held in reserve. As a result, the prices of American goods abroad collapsed. This led to the failure of state banks and the collapse of businesses, turning what could have been a brief recession into a prolonged depression. Financial writer William M. Gouge wrote that "the Bank was saved and the people were ruined".

What about owning a private minting company. People can send you designs to mint for their collections. Charge a nice premium to do so; whilst getting tax advantages/write offs on the silver you buy to produce to rounds/bars/bullions to the 3rd party market. Then just hide your stack in your business so when it is time to go after you; sorry mr tax man I paid my dues in the business where the assets are held. And since your assets are precious metals, you can take that to any international country and get credit through our business account, backed by the precious metals your 'company' (you) produce. This is what I have been contemplating and looking to attempt the coming year.

this is perfectly legal and actually how rich people operate. You're not hiding anything, you're converting profits to legal capital purchases, and growing your equity in the company instead of
>1. Make money
>2. Pay yourself money
>3. Pay taxes on money
>4. Buy silver
>5. Pay taxes on silver
>6. Sell silver
>7. Pay taxes on silver

why pay taxes on the same money 3 times when it's perfectly legal for the business to own it tax free and you can then borrow against it and write off the interest? Works with anything, not just silver.

be aware in the US you might get taxed on cap gains for inventory and equipment, and you still need enough income to service the loans. Also business loans can't be used for personal expenses if you're writing off the interest,

but yeah, as tax shelters go a business is spectacular. It's the reason all rich people own businesses. Some of them started businesses and got rich, but most of them got rich and then made businesses to protect their wealth from taxes.

>Under its charter, the bank had a capital limit of $35 million, $7.5 million of which represented the government-owned share. It was required to remit a "bonus" payment of $1.5 million, payable in three installments,[4] to the government for the privilege of using the public funds, interest free, in its private banking ventures.[90] The institution was answerable for its performance to the U.S. Treasury and Congress[3] and subject to Treasury Department inspection.[4]

>By the Mint Act, the Mint was to be situated at the seat of government of the United States. The five original officers of the U.S. Mint were a Director, an Assayer, a Chief Coiner, an Engraver, and a Treasurer (not the same as the Secretary of the Treasury). The Act allowed that one person could perform the functions of Chief Coiner and Engraver. The Assayer, Chief Coiner and Treasurer were required to post a $10,000 bond with the Secretary of the Treasury.

You can do a home office whether you rent or own the home. How it works is you measure the square footage of the home, and then the footage of your office. The office must be used ONLY for business. Then you take that percentage of the square footage and deduct it from the costs of the home as a business expense.

the US has another rule regarding the storage of samples or inventory which is even more generous since it allows you to write off a room that's not used solely for business if you store inventory there.

I can't legally or ethically answer that for you. If you're worried about the laws, ask an accountant. If you're worried about the returns, ask a financial advisor.

I'm not going to tell you to start a business that allows you to stack metals tax-free, but if I did I'd recommend audited storage, or recycling companies, or mints, or refineries, or mining, or jewelry making, or pouring art bars for resale.

but that's a shitload of work to avoid some tax laws that aren't even being enforced yet and may never be. Personally I would just wait, and not sell. What are you selling for anyways? Precious metals are a long game.
