they're herd creatures. as long as they're doing what everyone else is they feel ok. they don't look at their life like we do

exactly

I know a married couple that is convinced everyone lives their lives exactly as they do: spending 9-5 doing the bare minimum at their unfulfilling wagie job, then getting blasted on grass from 6pm ill they fall asleep only to awake and start the cycle all over again.

in their free time they go out to eat and split dinners that are put on a credit card that the in-laws end up paying for when the balance gets too high. they're almost 40 years old with a kid.

Before I dove deep into all the sweet benefits of my MIC company and basically secured my retirement, life was rather good. I do not drink or do drugs, the lap pool nearby is usually empty when I leave work, and a fun local comic/manga/game store had many new people that became my friends. I only thought about my retirement plan 2 years into my job, yet I'm already safe. My only fear is the fun money I put into stock goes down, then my retirement will be lamer. My hope is that I can finally buy a house cheap next collapse, whenever that is (I can already afford one).

When I was a shift manager I had guys who lived like that and accepted that that would be their day-to-day forever. They knowingly preferred that to risking anything or doing more than the bard minimum. What baffles me is people who live like this and can't understand why they don't accomplish anything, and blame anyone and everything but themselves for their treading water their whole lives.
