LLAP and Aduro Clean Technologies are the faves in my account.
I'm down bigly in IMPP but they converted their class C shares and did a buyback and seem to be on an upswing. If you get in now your average would be much lower than mine, but I wouldn't advise it. The owner uses it as a dillutive ATM and plays shell games with his assets selling ships between his companies and making profit off the transactions which never go back into the share price.
As a special dividend we got shares of his new dry shipping company, CISS, issued at $20. By the time they made it to my broker almost a week later the price of them was down to $1. You can bet your ass I'll have to pay taxes on the shares as they were issued at $20/per though.
And just to reiterate the lack of ethics and morals he sold an oil tanker from IMPP to CISS despite CISS was intended to be a dry shipping company.
So, I dunno. No one recommends IMPP as a hold, swing trade it if you do decide to get in.

1) don't feel you need to keep up a certain lifestyle, if this is necessary to keep her, re-evaluate whether you really enjoy being with her and whether she truly loves you for you as opposed to the monetary element

2) maybe don't keep so much in savings, unless you have an upcoming major expense you should keep savings at maybe 10-15k and invest the rest. Broadly diversified index funds like VSP that track the S&P500

3) work on getting that 63k income up to 6 figures much quicker than 5-10 years. At 33 you should already be making 6 figs, but the past is the past. Focus a lot more on improving your earning power as opposed to investing or cutting expenses. You need to make more, period.

I have been holding these calls for almost a year now and so far I've only seen 2x return and these last two ERs for SOFI have been straight up disappointment because it was all good but the stock just ate shit for no reason. Some actual good arbs
>SAVE
>BAK
>IRBT

You don't want to be buying the arbs with 10% spreads that all the arb funds have already fully slurped. That's bond-level returns with added risk. You want the next tranche down. The plays that are harder to calculate, and less strictly about profiting off some imaginary theta from expected wait time until closing.
I don't think any of these three above are amazing buying opportunities right now, but they're the type to watch. The best time to buy an arb is when it looks like some fund has just been blown out of their position on some bullshit news. When the spread suddenly opens wider, that's when you should start thinking to add.
Most mergers succeed in the end.

this is the bottom signal for this company
they are sharing their scale economies similar to costco (wholesale), but delivering it (in-house!) to your doorstep
screenshot this.
The stock looks expensive, but so did walmart when it was starting out.

to quote costco:
"We expect all vendors to consistently and voluntarily quote the lowest possible
acquisition price available on all items. A vendor who does not consistently and
voluntarily quote its lowest prices to our buyers will be permanently discontinued as a
purchasing source for Costco."

Now value people's time and energy to actually go get the groceries from the store (something costco didn't do), and you've got yourself a competitive business model.

Bezos knew this, in 2003 he wrote:

“As our shareholders know, we have made a decision to continuously and significantly
lower prices for customers year after year as our efficiency and scale make it possible. This
is an example of a very important decision that cannot be made in a math-based way. In
fact, when we lower prices, we go against the math that we can do, which always says that
the smart move is to raise prices. We have significant data related to price elasticity. With
fair accuracy, we can predict that a price reduction of a certain percentage will result in an
increase in units sold of a certain percentage. With rare exceptions, the volume increase in
the short-term is never enough to pay for the price decease. However, our quantitative
understanding of elasticity is short-term. We can estimate what a price reduction will do
this week and this quarter. But we cannot numerically estimate the effect that consistently
lowering prices will have on our business over five years or ten years. Our judgment is that
relentlessly returning efficiency improvements and scale economies to customers in the form
of lower prices creates a virtuous cycle that leads over the long-term to a much larger
dollar amount of free cash flow, and thereby to a much more valuable Amazon.com. We
have made similar judgments around Free Super Saver Shipping and Amazon Prime, both
of which are expensive in the short term and – we believe – important and valuable in the
long term.”

Hellofresh understands this and is sharing the cost reduction with the customer.

It all comes down to unemployment print in first few months of 2024. Historically if it breaks the 12 month moving average it's a very strong recession indicator.

November print brought it just above the 12 month SMA. If Dec & January print consolidate upward trend then GTFO equities and go 20+ year bonds.

In 2009, Nick Sleep from the Nomad Investment Partnership understood that Bezos understood this, and wrote: (see image)
He ended up sitting on his ass and getting rich off Amazon.

Consistent value is hard to come by and exists no longer in the numbers but in the recurring business model of having your competitors not get customers, which is what the hello fresh group is doing with their factor meals already taking up over 60% of the ready to eat market share. People generally don't enjoy cooking and the world is becoming more antisocial by the minute. Hellofresh is capturing this and capitalising on this with a delay. The most important thing a business must do from the get-go is build a brand, customer base and consistency in both quality and price before they achieve customer loyalty. Everybody is talking about hello fresh and in europe people can buy their boxes tax free from their gross salary through services like edenred and the like. This exists because income taxes in europe are high but the governments accept buying "basic living expenses" aka food tax free to lower your income tax bracket. It's an alternative form of compensation like a car.
Europe has 750 million people and growing btw.

I own HF. It looks expensive at first glance but it's not for a giga growth company. Thing is if you dig into their financials 60% of their revenue goes into SGA expenses. Which aren't really expenses they're more like investments into marketing and growing the customer base.

They could probably print a billion in annual net income right now if they wanted to stop growing. When they reach their growth target and up their margin and cut back on marketing costs the stock will shoot up but it's a long term play.

But at current price it's an amazing deal you're getting them at like 2 or 3 mature PE

This gets me to my last point: old people. Old people are rich, cripple and are willing to spend the extra dime to get the food to their doorstep. Old people are also doing anything to extend their longevity which means the healthy food is a great value proposition. This paired with microwave culture makes their ready to eat boxes worth their weight in gold. (people no longer believe you can take gold to the afterlife after all!) I think hellofresh understands that the western population is aging and is just another growth driver ready to explode as they make it easier for old people to navigate getting a subscription. I got hellofresh ads in my snail-mailbox today and realised what they're doing.

I checked them out before reading your thesis and Factor caught my eye more than any other of their brands because it's precooked and you just throw it in the microwave unlike hello fresh where you have to cook the meal yourself. Revenue growth is flat YoY, number of costumers are down, number of orders are down and profits are down because of an increase in marketing expenses. Why are they spending more on marketing and losing costumers? Are their margins too high is the product too expensive?

As proposed in my thesis, traditional fincancial metrics are of no use because decades of hidden value can persist based on the business model and strategy. hello fresh group doesn't intend to make profit because it is taxable and stunts growth. It is better to focus on cost reduction, sharing it with the customer by giving lower prices and acquiring as many customers as possible through marketing until you are the monopoly because everyone else went bankrupt because all their customers went to you. Market share and customer retention strength are difficult to measure.
Consider the image: McDonald's revenue since 2008. Flat, but then consider the stock price and have a deep think why this is. Some things you can't measure with financial metrics. Some things produce leverage which can be capitalised on massively by upping the price of your product with 1% when you are the monopoly.

I see the thesis and desu buying this at a $2B mcap is good value for money considering their ~60% market share. Although the declining costumer base is a bit worrying, they just need to focus on reducing costs and prices to go back to a growing costumer base which is exactly what they're doing. Thanks for sharing this info, after looking into it I'm probably going to buy some stock in the next couple of weeks.

yes there are several 90+% or even *perfect* recession indicators saying we’re absolutely going into a recession and probably soon.
as for the sahm rule specifically, it seems unnecessarily complicated when you can instead simple see that when unemployment moves above its 24 month moving average that also signals a recession very soon, every time. and iirc when it moves above its 12 month moving average there’s a recession nearly every time or maybe even every time. it crossed above both the 12 and 24 month in 4Q23.

ATM 0 Delta Straddles, dynamically hedged
Long/Short portfolios where one quintile is longed, the other is shorted.
>1 month cross sectional mean reversion
>2-12 month cross sectional momentum
>Implied-minus-historical volatility
>Implied volatility term spread
The authors discard 1 month mean reversion on the grounds of it's high beta with IV-HV, but fail to comment that it also has high beta with Idiosyncratic Volatility factor without the horrible risk.

My blog post showing the hypothetical performance of trading options using only these 4 signals will be out next month.

Remember that most these companies don’t need or even want your money in today’s world. They just want to get you into debt as quick and early as possible. Black people have no money and no long term planning capabilities. They are actually the best demographic for the modern lending techniques. I guess the risk that they will default on large loans outweighs the income stream from atm fees, service charges, OTL fees, and retarded interest rates.

Yes and they are very likely to rack up lots of bank fees like overdraft fees (no budgeting) and ATM fees (need cash for drugs and strip clubs), which are free money for banks.
