The volatility you guys seek with crypto is available on options on stocks. Real companies.

I’m not bashing but, could we transition /biz/ to step away?

I’m also sure some of you guys get institutional research, or some twitter hedge fund guys.

Let’s prepare /biz/ for 2024.

Thought?

I play with options sometimes but only when I'm nearly 100% sure its going to play out the way I want. Theres no "oh well it might rebound back one day" if things go south: you lose all your money. Also, even if the price goes up, if it doesnt go up the full amount you wanted or even higher depending on how close you are to expiry you once again lose all your money. That being said i made a decent amount with a $12 call on mara. Sold it all off at 17... if only i held to $24... man. Its harder to diamond hand options because you lose a fuckton of unrealized gains/losses if it dips just a little bit, even if youre still in the money

Don't judge your past decisions based on hindsight. It will lead to foolish decisions in the future based on nothing but "what if it does this". You have to always consider your decisions based on the information available at the moment you made them.

Here's an idea for what you could have done: cashed the options and rolled the proceeds into shares. That's what I'm doing with sold calls and puts on MARA.

Yeah, fuck options in general but especially buying them. For small guys it's essentially impossible to properly manage your risk because the cost of a single contract is over the amount you should reasonably be risking anyway. It's like showing up at a poker table and the buy-in is your entire bankroll. You're guaranteed to lose.

In certain aspects, yes. It depends on what options since there's considerable variability even on the same ticker across different dates. I don't trade shitcoins though, tried it a bit last bull, made a little money but really not my cup of tea. They both go in my "do not touch" basket. absolutely, 100% true, but no one will listen because they somehow think they can "beat" the system, or at least they hope they can because at the very least they know its *possible* to land 100x with options, however remote that possibility may be. Oil stocks can and often do diverge from the price of crude oil. They are moderately correlated over the long term but that correlation is not evenly distributed in the short to medium term. There's a bunch of other variables related to the function of these businesses which may distort that price signal. And the stock market is so fucking efficient that any price correlation between crude and oil stocks that does exist is likely to be priced in, in real-time by algos so I couldn't exploit it even if I wanted to.
>With crypto, where’s the edge?
The edge is how hilariously inefficient the market is. Since there are no fundamentals there's a very small set of variables to consider. Sentiment, supply dynamics and price action. Technical analysis works better because the charts are largely driven by human emotion and self-fulfilling prophecy. Price is 100% subjectively determined. There are no "fair value" algos instantly correcting pricing inefficiencies based on a cashflow valuation algorithm which updates in real-time, because there are no cashflows. I have very little competition from institutional players for a vast number of reasons which make it unattractive to them.

If you don’t see why crypto is the future you’re fundamentally retarded. data breaches of credit card providers and banks are worth hundreds of billions up to trillions, centralization is actually a hindrance to the system as it makes the rules as it sees fit and then just follows those rules to continue winning.
